That will be my film-to-see next weekend. This weekend... I don't know. Probably either Happy-Go-Lucky, Let The Right One In, or Synecdoche a second time.

When Synecdoche hits town, I'll be seeing that shit right, too. I'm saving up to see that, Milk, and Benjamin Button for the coming months. I hope I can catch Rachel Getting Married and Slumdog Millionaire in that time, too.

Lance, you're going to lose your lovin' all over Let the Right One In.

If you're a fan of gorgeous cinematography and sound design, which I'm sure you are, and a sweet, complex characterization of the modern vampire story, then you'll like it.

Well then, perhaps that's what I'll go see tomorrow then when everyone else I know is seeing Quantum Leap.

Perhaps.

you folks who actually still go to see movies...you do this often? are you in close proximity with theaters that don't charge an arm and a leg, or are you independently wealthy? i've been to maybe 3 movies in about as many years, and i know that ticket prices are an oft-bitched about subject. i've always been lucky, the theater near where i used to live always had cheaper prices (from what i've been told). or i've been smart and gone to weekday noon show times where i've never paid more than 5.25. i think the last movie i went to cost somewhere around 7 or 8 bucks, but holy fucking hell how is $10.25 an acceptable amount of money to charge? i mean, there will be blood at a local independent theater is one thing, i saw rocknrolla at the mall and it cost that shitton of money.

I try to go to the theater about once a week on average. It's really the only one "big event" I look forward to with any regularity. Not to say I don't go out to friend's parties or go out to dinner with people and what not, but I make it a point to pretty steadily make it to the theater every week. $10 a week for that really isn't too bad of a price for the satisfaction I get from it. I also make it a point to try to avoid mediocre to poor pictures and I'm lucky that DC gets most of the more high-caliber "arthouse" fare pretty regularly too.

i guess i've just always looked at movies as something cheap to do when i couldn't afford more expensive stuff. 10 bucks could be movie and lunch. that, and i'm incredibly picky about movies. i don't even think i'd spend 10 bucks to see one of my all-time favorite movies.

It's all about the matinees for me. There are a couple very good theatres in L.A. that charge $7, and if I miss anything there's a good second run theatre that shows a mix of mainstream and indie for $2 before 6pm and $3 after. On Wednesdays they have "date night", where you get two admissions, two popcorns, and two drinks for $10. Unfortunately, the date itself costs me $100 an hour. RIMSHOT.

Oh yeah, this too:

Has anyone seen Zach and Miri yet? I'm going in like five hours.

Sadly, I'll probably have to catch that on DVD or the dollar theater, since none of my friends want to see it with me.

I figure out what movies I "have to see" in theaters and ones I can wait for on DVD. The dollar theater's also a viable option, as is torrenting if it's not available in the US yet or something.

I should be getting a copy of Watchmen for Christmas.
Can't wait to give it a 'proper' reading.
I've read enough about it recently that I get a sense of it, but I don't want to discuss it until I get the full experience.

Certainly must read it properly before the movie comes out.

Speaking of Watchmen, and be careful because I'm going to go into SPOILER territory here, Zach Snyder just confirmed to a crowd at a Q&A that the final scene of the film is the final scene of the book. I can not tell you how pleased I am about this. To me, I don't care how good the rest of it turned out to be, I would have been greatly disappointed by its omission. That they're willing to have an ambiguous coda after that apocalyptic finale is just so awesome to me. It's going to send chills down the spines of the uninitiated, and the true fans as well.

I'm leaving it entirely up to you...

I live in an area where there are movie theaters inside of the casinos and my mother (bless her heart) gambles fairly frequently. This causes her to rack up plenty of casino "comps" which can be used at the restaurants, shops, and movie theaters. If I want to see something, I let her know and she gets me the tickets. I haven't paid to see a movie in probably six or seven years.

Or a buffet, for that matter

I was reading the review of that in Entertainment Weekly. They too seemed surprised that he was good in it.

Hellooooo, meta!

YES!

The last fan write-up on Ain't It Cool has me even more excited, too.

In a recent interview, Tony Leung revealed he's been working out 8 hours a day training for the role of Yip Man in Wong Kar-Wai's long-gestating biopic on him. He also said shooting will begin next fall. So I'm guessing we'll finally get to see this in 2011.

Fuck.

Yes.

Whoah.

The best thing about this film (already) is that it won't be a Hollywood flick but a good old Hong Kong / China production. I miss the old Jet Li.

Also, Tony Leung.

Man, Foul Play's such an entertaining movie. I always end up watching it on cable.
