How is that ludicrous? The NBA and NHL both do it. The season doesn't HAVE to end on the same day. How many playoff spots in baseball over the past decade have truly been determined on the LAST game of the season, anyways?
And it doesn't have to work that way, either.
You could have an odd combination of series finales where some finish on the 28th(3 game series), 29th(4 game series), and 30th(2 game series).
It's not like just because a team is sitting 2 back in GP that it automatically means they had 2 days off in a row during that week. They could've just as easily played 20 games in a row and had 2 days off at a completely different time period, apart from one another.
