3 Irishmen and a Dutchman Walk Into A Sphere - General Discussion Thread Part III

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

If that's true, I think there's no way it's anything other than an "appearance" or maybe joining them for one song. I think it'd be kind of a nice touch, otherwise it doesn't feel very realistic (yes these are his songs but there's so much timing/rehearsing in this show and there's no way they'd want to sit him straight in there when the rest of the crew is absolutely dialed after 38 shows) and also unfair to Bram who has done an incredible job filling in.

Nevermind the 10+ musicians onstage with him. And the actual, live singing and playing. Or the on-time start…
she sang quite a bit, actually, which isn't always for the best.

even more disappointed now that i didn't get March 2 tickets given The Return of Larry. but we are renovating the kitchen this year (hopefully) so better to save the cash i guess.

if they don't ride this wave of positive vibes into a new album and tour then they really are lazy and stupid.

It'll be hilarious if the "return" of Larry is nothing more than him waving from a suite.

This is the Daily Mail, a glorified tabloid rag, so I'd take anything they write with a big grain of salt.

Certainly something that came to mind to many was that, if Larry would indeed make an appearance, he could play "40" at the final, 40th show. Either that or Atomic City.

I'll believe it when I see it.

TMZ is usually pretty accurate, I wouldn't think of The Eagles as a Sphere act.

If I was made of money, which unfortunately I'm not, I would have made my second trip to LV to see U2 and Adele in the same weekend. She just postponed more shows on her doctor's advice due to illness.

Eagles certainly not a band you think of as a multimedia type show that works in Sphere.
Sounds like Dolan and company just looking for legacy acts with fan bases who are willing to spend big money on tix, not an act that can utilize the venue to its utmost potential.

So…is the thing from the venue about showing up for a wristband at 8am the morning of the show just BS? Or at that point am I just behind whatever the hell this system is

No one has confirmed if it was anyone from the usual U2 source camp or not. For all we know it was just some Irish DJ reading from the Daily Mail. I mean, it would be really cool of the fan fic write up of Larry comes out at the end of the show, Bram hands the sticks to him and Larry plays the show out with 40 comes to pass, but considering Larry has not even been seen at a show, don't know... Sure, I suppose he could have come and gone and we didn't even notice.

It is not BS. You could just show up at 8:00 AM and get on the back of the line and will be issued a wrist band by the venue. The bigger question is whether that wrist band is going to get you a significantly better spot than you would get if you just got in line at 6:00 PM for doors at 6:30. The answer is probably not....

Ah, that helps, thanks.

Some people will just tell you, show up at 7:30 PM and you can still be 3 off the rail... and that may be true if you are willing to be far off to the side. The floor has been getting more and more packed earlier.

Seconding this. And as close as some of those very side stage spots can be, I do think you probably miss some of the production effect by not having either a more distanced side/corner or straight-on view.

i was more centered on night one, but off to adam's side.

i was as close to the screen as you could get on adam's side on night two.

i don't think i missed anything from a production standpoint. there's no distortion at all. i actually thought i could see MORE of the production from over there, because it was easy to see the stuff going up and over the crowd's head from that side angle.

long story short - unless you're under the overhang, or you're like Clerks and your seats are in the bathroom? there isn't a bad view in the house.

Sneaky sumbitch!

Hey that’s not bad at all! but you also had some distance from the stage

ahh it wasn't as far away as it looks there. i was only, like, 3 or 4 people back from the front rail. i was just 2 people behind the front rail originally but moved back when a spot on the side fail opened up because i preferred to have something to lean on.

only time there was any issue at that spot was when they only used the spots back there for So Cruel. things got bright, and U2 Crap Photoish

Counterpoint to Miro's reply.
We got wristbands (February 3 show) by showing up around 8:30 AM. We were bands 299 and 300. Ended up on the rail on Adam's side. Would not have been there without bands.

I have not done any wristbanding at Sphere. Only did one true GA. We got there at 6:20ish and got to the back of the line and we were one off the rail in Adam's side. But that was early October.

My point really is that who knows if putting in the extra two hours or so (say 45 minutes in AM for wrist banding and 1 1/2 hours in afternoon to line up numerically and be admitted) results in significantly better spots than just showing up shortly before doors. This late in the game? Maybe. Earlier in the residency? Not so much.

Yeah, I’m assuming Saturday’s show will be more of a scramble in GA than something in early Feb was. Just trying to set my expectations, sounds like if I get a wristband in the morning and come back in the late afternoon I’m in with a chance of a decent spot.
