So I went to the World Wide Web and looked up Pre Save on Spotify.

Pre-save to Spotify campaigns allow your fans to connect on Spotify and automatically add an upcoming album or single to their Spotify library when it is released. Additionally, fans can automatically follow the artist or a playlist and can have the album added to a new or existing playlist.

That button alone would have saved Songs of Innocence

So true, why they let the album automatically download to people's devices I never know. I remember them saying they didn't know that could happen :) which was complete rubbish. Surely someone at Apple would have said. I don't think they realised the backlash they would get, myslef I found it hilarious :) but definitely the wrong decision.

Give the album away, it was a great idea that made them a lot of money but give people the chance to say yes or no.

Just give me the damn album cover already. I imagine Friday, but it seems they're itching to just announce.

tracklisting is what i want!! But album cover a close second.

Who thinks it will be the son/daughter cover? Who thinks it will be different?

I'm guessing it will be the one, or close to the one we have seen.

Eww "Pre-Saving" requires you to basically give your entire personal Spotify history to Universal. No thanks.

Universal Music will be able to receive this Spotify account data.

Funny how the conventional wisdom around here has coalesced that it was basically a bad idea. At the time there was a LOT of defending it, usually along the lines of "Shut up and stop whining and be grateful you got a free U2 album"....followed by assurances that this move would revolutionise the music business.

Capturing your data when you do a pre-save isn't a bug, it's a feature. That's the whole purpose the pre-save in the first place. It's like when you're asked to sign a petition with your email along the lines of "Tell Congress Not to Let the Koch Brothers Buy The Supreme Court." Congratulations. Congress doesn't care and you've just signed up to receive fund raising emails for the rest of your life.

Love "Breathe", "Magnificent", "Moment of Surrender", "Unknown Caller"....a very under-rated album with several under the radar gems.

And yet, they bungled the first impression with that "song" titled Get on Your Boots. Sweet Mother of Cargo Pants, horrible choice.

Seriously. The US third leg was so needless. and with a new album on the horizon, its really hard to care. In fact, I am betting the band is at the same point. :crack:

And the whole St Louis fiasco (which I was there for) just made the 3rd leg seem like a nightmare in the memory of some. (me)

In times like that, I think of the Mars Climate Orbiter that crashed in 1999. Millions of dollars and years of work spent on a space probe down the drain because the engineering team used an English unit of measurement and NASA used a metric one for an important operation.

So yeah, it's not inconceivable to me that the easy things can somehow screw up in the long run.

Well, i don't think the two feelings are mutually exclusive. I really don't think that people should have whined, and lets be honest, set themselves on fire, proclaimed their lives were ending sort of hyperbolic bullshit that resulted.

BUT - since that DID happen. We can be reasonable enough people to say, that was a bad idea and it does really seem that it could have been easily avoided, and just as ground-breaking, if they had a pop up on everyone's phone that just asked if they wanted to accept or decline the album download.

I think we're all waiting for confirmation before melting down

Color me crazy, but the 'updated' terms and conditions on U2.com virtually confirms it for me. We are in for chaos.

And ironically, missing that one show, may be the deciding factor in whether The JT 2017 tour will be the top grossing tour of the year or lose out to GnR.

:doh::huh::angry:

I mean, that's what happens when you contract to a bunch of conservative fat old white men at LMCO.

Who engineers in imperial units? Not NASA and not anyone in space (though tbf sometimes you still see it in propulsion, which was the issue).

Has someone been listening to the 99% Invisible podcast? :hmm:

The system makes you prove your devotion to U2. Who is the biggest fan? devotion. You can preorder the CD of Songs of experience – and to receive it on the day of release. And you are allowed to buy the album 13 times to boost your place in the line. You can buy merchandise from U2.com. If you do not want to spend money, you can get a smaller boost to your position by repeatedly watching her new video, or by posting about U2 on social media.

Its a goddamn nightmare.

I've had it then I don't do social media.

Fanscore technology won't take into account the fact that I've been a massive fan for over 20 years, that I've seen 13 shows since 1997, bought all of their albums (some more than once), etc.

They can shove their fanscore technology up their asses! I will be buying SOE exactly ONE time, and I will spend $0 on a bullshit fan club membership or on merchandise. I don't need another poorly made t-shirt. This isn't the Vertigo Tour, tickets aren't going to sell out at neck breaking speed, we have other options.

I think the fanscore thing is nothing to get that upset about. This type of thing is aimed more at the big pop acts Like Tay Tay and Ed Sheeran. The ones that have hordes of teen fans that will buy multiple copies of an album and watch a video 300 times.

I think that most people here, that pre-order the album, maybe buy like 1 piece of merchandise are way ahead of 95% of other U2 fans, or regular joe's that are going to buy a ticket to a show.

What happened to supporting your local record shop?

Will Fanscore take into account the 500 pounds from Bono's old man? Edge's father? Adam Clayton's mother?

What about the 500 pounds I've given them by now? Will it take into account the great life I've given U2 (that Bono thanked me for).

F*ck Fanscore, those bloody c*nts.

If they went into a similar deal, then I must've missed that one!

Until he died, my grandfather would still rant about how they put the brakes on metrication in this country. Which makes sense since he worked in an industry that works highly with that sort of thing. Must've been mad when they said they were converting at some point, then stopped in the middle somewhere.

Wow. What a crock of shit.

How can they think something like this is a good idea for a band which has been around for as long as they have and many of their fans will have a history with the band that stretches back so many years pre-internet?
