But put yourself in someone's shoes who thinks this tour is amazing and the past 4 shows have been the best they have been to, to keep hearing time after time "oh they where so much better back then than this shit" etc and I know for a fact you will say just ignore it but to some people it grates, especially if you have been to the show and log on here and see some setlist warrior saying how crap the show was based on watching it come up on a screen or a poor phone stream.

You do realise that it's possible to think U2 have done amazing stuff, not think the current tour is amazing, and still want to talk about U2, right? (Go check out me drunk tweeting on the U2gigs account right now!)

I'm sure it grates, but come on, if you think ANY band is doing their best shit almost forty years after they formed, you're going to be in a really small minority. And to be honest, most of us who are taking issue with this or that are people who have a very strong investment in the band and know how incredible they COULD be.

Some people over here will kill you for this opinion :) Express an opinion about a show you haven´t attended :) Forbidden thing to do.

You do realise the problem is not your opinions, but how you express them, yes?

Check out all my really unpopular opinions (exhibit A: One sucks), and even I have found you to test my patience.

Do you have any idea how sick I am of seeing this question?

Obviously I get it a bit more than some. But I hope anybody asking this question realises that Interference is a community, that many of us have built up close friendships here, and that even when the non-U2 parts of the forum hold more current interest we are still curious about what the band are doing. We have very fond nostalgia about this band and still feel very strongly about their older material, past tours, etc. We know how brilliant they can be and wish they still were.

This times a million.

To act as if you should only be posting on this part of the forum if you have a fervent interest in U2's latest material is preposterous.

Lunacy, I'd say.

By the same token it is grating for people like us, who only get at the very most two U2 shows in our town every six years, who spend two years watching the band play shows over and over in the US and Europe (often doing multiple legs of one continent before getting to us), to see people posting nothing but positivity. If you read the posts of some here and elsewhere, U2 could play two hours of Elvis Ate America and there'd be posts like "we should be grateful they're still playing". When we are so, so far removed from U2 shows I have little patience for these sort of posts.

There's a middle ground; maybe instead of constantly harping on about how we're "whinging", maybe take a look at how excited we were that Electric Co. was played today. I was on a high for half an hour after that.

But to some this is amazing? But those people are always beaten down by the "na it's not that good" and I have seen people say these are amongst the best shows they have seen period?

Good on them; I haven't made a single reply to any of these posts that has told them they're wrong.

Yeah come on, did anybody here see my U2gigs tweets when The Electric Co. began? Because I fucking LOST IT.

To feign surprise at a setlist that is pretty much in line with 95% of their setlists of the last 35 years I find somewhat odd, no matter whether the person expressing this opinion is positive or not about U2.

Axver, so funny- I was at last night's show, and after briefly losing it when they started into Electric Co. I turned to my wife and said "Right now on the internets, Interference is blowing up!"

 No kidding.

Next time somebody questions how I feel about this band, I think I can safely just point them towards these two tweets, when I had no idea what else to say: https://twitter.com/u2gigs/status/600863092185038848 and https://twitter.com/u2gigs/status/600863177266434048

If this place was nothing but butterflies and rainbows unicorns when it comes to U2 the only section of this forum that would be left works be PLEBA.

U2 are almost like extended family to many of us, who never send a fucking Christmas card.

You love your family, but you don't always like what they do. Healthy families discuss their issues.

The majority of those who may say something that is "negative" about the band also say/do hundreds of wonderful things about them as well. Of course there are some exceptions to this... ( :) ) ... but the majority of us really really love U2.

I mean for fucks sake Axver may nitpick about set lists, but the guy runs one of the greatest fan resources on the internet; something that I'm sure takes up hours and hours of his free time. To say he doesn't like the band because he doesn't like some of the things they do is just plain silly.

Yep. I don't mind the idea of them dropping it if they were going to really fuck shit in the ear setlist wise, but I'd be really bummed if I went to a gig and didn't hear it. It's my favourite song of all time. The second that organ starts I am just lost in it.

I watched the San Jose #1 performance of Streets this morning and I got genuine goosebumps/neckfuzz stand when the arpeggio comes in. And I think Mother & Child Reunion really works, I like it.

Not my fault that some people focus only on that side of my post that express critics and completely ignore the prasing part. :)

sticky this pls

I also wrote an article for a very popular Australian music blog defending U2 late last year, but apparently unless all you post is sunshine and rainbows you're a hindrance.

These forums would be boring as fuck without a bit of dissension.

Other people enjoy U2 to a different degree and in a different manner than you do. That's life. Really not worth discussing for pages.

31 different songs over four shows with a group of 18 that's constant and rotational spots for 6 others. Not bad! And Iris sounds incredible. It's becoming one of my favorite u2 songs.

Miracle Drug, Electric Co, When Love Comes to Town, Sweetest Thing, Out of Control, and the Troubles are all surprises to me even though some of those were rehearsed.

The set looks amazing and even smells like a street.

Looks like this is U2's best tour since Popmart. U2 finally have an album/tour that's worthy of them.

It's a matter of personal taste and "lunacy" is a bit much mate.

Sorry but I think 99.999% of fans would agree that boycotting a U2 gig over the current setlist choice is indeed "bordering on lunacy" as I suggested.

But you're entitled to your opinion - as, surely, am I.

:applaud: This.

Some of us PLEBAns actually do an annual Xmas card exchange, btw. It's one of my favorite parts of the holiday.

This concludes the setlist bitching portion of the forum.

Well I didn't go to 360 because of the setlist (and I regret it). But if A) you've seen most of the show before, and B) you're not that into the new songs it makes sense to not go. Why spend $100 on something you don't think you'll enjoy?

But boycotting this tour is just insane. The new songs are awesome, and there are surprises. I find When Love Comes to Town to be almost as surprising as Your Blue Room, if not as exciting. But unlike Blue Room, WLCTT is great live.

I'm specifically referring to the guy who BOUGHT a ticket but is threatening NOT TO GO based on what he's seen & heard so far. Jesus man, that's a massive call!!

Watching Axver lose his shit on twitter made my night. And learning how to use meerkat for the first time. That was a lot of fun watching U2 and then watching fan streams. Throw in a triple OT hockey game and it was pretty much heaven for me.
