Yeap, no doubts about it.
To be clear, I respect a lot what they are doing and the people who like the kind of setlists they are presenting, it's just a matter of taste. I was expecting more creativity in the music, more ambition.

I haven't seen them do a stretch in a show Like sbs/raised by wolves/uteotw since popmart both musically and visually so I find that pretty creative.

Again each to their own but the whole I don't like it so its not creative argument is all a little much

The only problem with this show is that there's not much "wiggle room". Everything is pretty essential in its place. There needs to be 2-3 spots in the setlists where any random song can be inserted. Maybe somewhere in the first 5 songs before Iris and the SOI theme take over, then another free spot on the b-stage, and then another in the encore. Otherwise it's a solid, if not predictable, setlist. I hope I get to see "out of control" or "electric co"!

Not happy about the continued dropping of The Troubles. :grumpy:

I'm sure it didn't get an explosive reaction in Vancouver and now they're scared to do it ever again. It's just the kind of song the audience will sit down and watch, not actively engage in. Doesn't mean it's a bad song, or that the crowd didn't like it. Sometimes you need moments like that in a live show. If they'd just start their show half an hour earlier, they could play this and a few others, instead of having to cut it because they're worried about curfew. It's not like the have the opening band to consider!

Think it will definitely show up again in cities with more than 2 shows, but certainly appears like it won't be a regular which is a shame.....almost like original of the species

Agree about the Troubles. I find it a bit annoying that they decided to kick it out both nights in a row in what seems to be a last minute decision, just as if Bono was panicking over the song before it was supposed to start. Honestly, they need to give it a chance before they can judge the audience reaction, they've only played it once so far. Also, I agree about the set needing more SOI songs - I'd be fine with ALL of them including Lucifer and Crystal Ballroom. I don't get why Reach me now and Volcano are missing at all, they seem to be great songs to be performed live.

Could the omission of The Troubles have anything to do with Bono having vocal issues? He seemed to struggle with it in Vancouver, at least that was my impression based on the videos.

Don't ever base 90% of your expectations on 3 songs.

I really have no clue how you can expect "more creativity in the music", the songs are already written.

And once again: it's still early!!!

Yes, in the Song Survivors Streets came out on top pretty much every time we've done it.

If they drop Streets, I wouldn't like it one bit.

Yep. I don't mind the idea of them dropping it if they were going to really fuck shit in the ear setlist wise, but I'd be really bummed if I went to a gig and didn't hear it. It's my favourite song of all time. The second that organ starts I am just lost in it.

My personal views after 4 concerts (based on Periscope & YouTube only) are:

1) The first night vs second night setlist changes in each city so far are as significant as I expected; as significant as any band of their "vintage"; and significant enough to give a different experience night to night

2) The intimate arenas and visuals are amazing and I'm more excited about this than in the vast stadiums of 360

3) For me, SOI is a much better album than NLOTH, so having 6-7 new tracks off SOI is just as good as having the rarities we got for 360

4) I hope they persevere with Troubles and rotate it along with Volcano & California as the tour progresses. I hope they're still playing 6-7 SOI tracks by the time Glasgow & London come along

5) The whining coming from some "fans" on this board (particularly those threatening to not go to concerts they have tickets for!) after just 4 concerts is bordering on lunacy

The whining about the whining is more tiresome. There are a lot of people posting here whose worlds don't revolve around U2 and in recent years have fallen out of love a bit, which is understandable. It's a matter of personal taste and "lunacy" is a bit much mate.

Wow has someone really said they won't go even with tickets? That's fucking nuts

So why would you spend so much time at a place that doesn't interest you anymore? I mean come on if I don't like something anymore I wouldn't be visiting anymore simple, plus wha your saying is people are allowed to whine but yet we are not allowed to come back at it?

Because there's a lot more to this forum than just discussing U2..?

I'm very happy that Bad got a great reaction yesterday; hopefully that will encourage them to keep it in the night 2 setlists.

I'm flying out Friday for both Phoneix shows and I told myself I wouldn't look at the setlist....oh well

I'm please with the setlist but a little disappointed at no 'Reach Me' & 'Sleep Like A Baby'. Sure I would love to hear songs from Pop or Unforgettable Fire but not hearing those 2 songs from SOI is baffling. Especially 'Reach Me'.

But I'm looking forward to my 14th & 15th U2 show this weekend!!!

Do you have any idea how sick I am of seeing this question?

Obviously I get it a bit more than some. But I hope anybody asking this question realises that Interference is a community, that many of us have built up close friendships here, and that even when the non-U2 parts of the forum hold more current interest we are still curious about what the band are doing. We have very fond nostalgia about this band and still feel very strongly about their older material, past tours, etc. We know how brilliant they can be and wish they still were.

To act as if you should only be posting on this part of the forum if you have a fervent interest in U2's latest material is preposterous.

But put yourself in someone's shoes who thinks this tour is amazing and the past 4 shows have been the best they have been to, to keep hearing time after time "oh they where so much better back then than this shit" etc and I know for a fact you will say just ignore it but to some people it grates, especially if you have been to the show and log on here and see some setlist warrior saying how crap the show was based on watching it come up on a screen or a poor phone stream.

I honestly think there is nothing wrong with what was said above - a personal reaction after going to a show.

It is very easy to get excited when your favorite band hits the road, but I'd say it is harder to come to a realization they are not what they used to be.

Just based on the videos I have seen of the shows (flame away) I also have to say I do not really get what they are trying to do.

It just seems illogical and boring to me to play the same songs 1/2 the show, best of stuff, every night on every tour. If they want critical and I would say fan acclaim they might not want to play Streets or some others every single night.

There are some show elements that we have seen before (I am rather shocked by some of the direct NIN rip-offs) - also trying not to list spoilers here, but come on man.

I do not think they are literally dying, but creatively I feel like going for the gold metal every tour might not be the best strategy.

After 360 they could have very easily set up a rectangular stage at the end of the arena with nothing more than white lights and a 32-song balls to the wall setlist and sold out the tour.

They chose avant garde again and now will have to make it work.

Really mixed views about this one and I think July will make my 12th show since Joshua Tree in '87.

Then again, that was their best tour. ;-)

Some people over here will kill you for this opinion :) Express an opinion about a show you haven´t attended :) Forbidden thing to do.

Anyway, I share your point of view to a certain point. I think the first half of the show follows some idea, even with the little films on the screen. I quite like that, despite I would replace Dad rock song with Soldier, Campfire song with Volcano and Single For No One with California, just because those songs are much, much better and I´m 100% sure they would work live better than those 3 which are quite mid-tempo or little bit clumsy.

Bigger problem is the rest of the show which is basically playing it safe with greatest hits and moreover with not a very good flow. I would like U2 to be more courageous here or play more new stuff from recent album or from second disc (Lucifer, Ballroom).

I´d like to mention some great things about the show, too. The screen above the catwalk is very impressive. Adam is THE BOSS WITH HIS BADASS BASS. Bono prooved the quality of his singing on the record. He constantly improves his technique, he adlibs the melodies in a very smart and exciting way. Respect!
