I think that this thread ought to be destroyed. Like, not just closed, but sent packing into oblivion. Deleted. Murdered. Disappeared.

U2 have too much going on right now, and are suffering from too many options. They just need to put something out ASAP that reflects the best of this "Danger Mouse album/Club album/Spiderman songs/Rubin Sessions/Songs of Ascent/2010 Road testing songs" clusterfuck they're in. Then finish out the 360 tour, finally, and start the next album completely from scratch, and have that be their one and only musical focus.

I agree. The boys are stuck in the mud. Spiderman is draining them and they seem to have lost focus. Achtung was great bc the took off to a new locale and WORKED. They need to do nothing but the album. You would never be good at your job if you had this much going on in your life. Focus Bono-san! Focus!!

These.

^^^Boots is a superior and good song.

I just wish they would leave the pre chorus lyrics out, "You don't know how...". Should have just had the band playing, no need for lyrics as it sounds sloppy.

SUC.....well.......I'm afraid its worst U2 recorded song since........damn

Really? That's my favourite part.

I agree with your last line though. It's even worse than Miracle Drug...:reject:

fuck it. radiohead pushed their release forward to today. :hyper: I'm putting aside all cares about any new u2

Radiohead are so cool:
monday announcing that their new album will be available for download this saturday. Then deciding to push it even a day forward!

4 days between official announcement and having the music on your iPod!!!

U2 should really do a Radiohead!

I know this is off-topic, but I'm on Morning Mr Magpie, and damn, it's heavy competition.

I *really* want to go to U2.com some random day and just see "click here to download the new single". How hard is that? Honestly.

i think the best we could ever hope for with u2 is a surprise single announcement.

there are many things that u2 could and should learn from second tier (as far as popularity goes) bands like radiohead, pearl jam, etc., especially when it comes to fan relations, but when it comes to marketing, they're simply in a different stratosphere.

five * ten * eleven

Floating into the galley in search of food, i passed by a window on the opposite side of the plane that provided a view over several sunsets, or sunrises depending on your outlook on things. I chose neither.

Once inside the galley i came to the realization that the food in those special little trays was hard as a rock. I even tried to put one of the trays in the oven, but the electronics in the galley didn't seem to be working. In fact, i don't think it was working anywhere in the plane. I found a beverage and some stale peanuts, but consumption of either was challenging in my gravity defying position.

I carefully swam back through the aisle into the cockpit to see if the pilots chair would be a nice place to rest my aching body. I sat down into the padded leather chair with some blankets and pillows i had managed to grab along the way. I strapped my tired body into the chair to hopefully grab some rest and come up with a plan or two.

My bones ached inside and out, my head hurt, my muscles were exhausted and shrinking. Just before i was about to fade out i noticed something that jolted me awake and made me sit upright in the chair. First off, planet Earth seemed to be drifting farther and farther away from me.....not good. And secondly, it suddenly appeared as though i was not alone out here.....

You guys remember the frigging nonsense/secrecy on hearing GOYB!?!? The reports of record executives holding meetings, previews, and other BS just to hear one song.....

U2 could have just released MOS on Christmas Eve or right before on U2.com (free download) and would have had a better reaction than treating a song like "Boots" as the holy grail of singles.

And your right Headache, as much as U2 gives props to Indie bands & bands like Radiohead, you would think they would follow suit. With Danger Mouse in the mix things will be low key this time.

that had more to do with keeping the album/songs from leaking than the thought that boots was the best... thing... ever...

and no u2 album release will ever be "low key." even if they are planning a more subtle/surprise announcement, it's because they believe the strategy will lead to more hype, thus more sales. everything they do is scripted out.
