Now can someone please explain to me the difference between Rosti and Hashbrowns?

Rösti is like ... a mash of chips (fries) ... sort of. Not just mashed potato or whatever.

ANYWAY BACK TO PICTURES.

I'm just saying, even Wiki had a See Also: Hashbrowns. The way I read how it's made it seems like the exact same thing.

And finally, we poured the gravy over it and let the heat of the rösti and gravy melt the cheese.

There you have it.

This I can get behind.

Because I still am not sure what cheese curds are, poutine itself, I'm not sure about.

Maybe I'll make this Sunday night. With hashbrowns I suppose, cause I'm not sure if I could find Rosti around here, or if I would be able to successfully make it myself.

The end result is different. I have a very strong preference for rösti. Hash browns, here anyway, have a habit of being greasier for one thing ... and rösti is definitely crumblier.

Oh, that would be a HUGE difference then. I understand now. (not being sarcastic, when I reread this post it seemed like I was)

There's rösti you can get here that's very easy to make, but other brands can be quite different. Hash browns would get you pretty close, go nuts!

And the "cheese curds" part, it's just the cheese melting from the heat of the chips and gravy, at least that's the way the poutine served in Melbourne is. Can't speak for Quebec!

Don't get me wrong, this rösti was greasy too, but yeah, the crumbliness is a marked difference.

I want to download YKTR but it'll murder my bandwidth for at least half an hour. :(

Guess I'll do it while I sleep ...

Righto, will pick that up when I go grocery shopping. Rosti if I can find it.

Oh is that all it is? I melt cheese that way all the time. It just sounds like cottage cheese to me when I hear it referred to as "curds".
