And to think we've almost reached our second 1,000 post limit, with not a lot to go by. Can you tell we're obsessed?

We are! We even spent about 2-3 pages making up a parody called "Ultraviolent", which I did make one myself earlier today!

This is what pisses me off when people complain about Bomb and NLOTH and ATYCLB... They could quite justifiably do that, or... you know.... not make music... at all...

Winter doesn't seem finished at all. It has some good lyrical parts, but most of the lyrics aren't great.

Mercy doesn't seem finished as well, but the lyrics are much better, they are intense. I love Mercy. Haven't listened to it in quite some time, though.

U2 GET ROLLING STONE COVER TREATMENT
Posted: September 30, 2009
By: m2
We hinted at this on Twitter over the past few days, and now it's confirmed: U2 (well, Bono and Edge) are on the cover of the new issue of Rolling Stone, which is available today. The cover story is titled U2 Live From Outer Space and you can get a sneak peek at the story on RollingStone.com. The article itself focuses strictly on the U2 360 tour, but last night on Twitter, author Brian Hiatt told us that there'll be an update on U2's new album, Songs of Ascent, sometime soon on RollingStone.com.

:drool::drool::drool:

The only reason they would have an update is if there is something actually happenning!! It may only be confirmation of further recording when 360 leg 2 finishes, but still sounds like there will be some progress to report! Good news. :hyper:

my thoughts too. i don't think U2 would allow Rolling Stone to hype up SOA if there wasn't something brewing.

Wow

Should we really be expecting actual information?

Not just "U2 will work on SOA between tour legs" or something?

An update on Songs of Ascent sometime soon on RollingStone.com =

Can't bloody wait!

^ well if it was the latter, I dont think U2 would let them pitch it as exciting new info (as we have already heard similar). i would think it is more substantial, not a great deal more, but at least it will be something!

Something to pull us through for the next month or so, until we start begging for beach clips.

Hear that people in Vancouver, if they do record there, I want people there with 722's strapped to their backs recording every little thing

Its Canada... a) noone would attack Canada and b) I dont think they are as paranoid about people carrying backpacks as the US or UK

Meh.

How long would you predict we'll have to wait until the SOA update? I'm predicting 3 days.

For the first time in ages, I'm listening to Saints. Please, God, don't let U2 work with that Rubin bastard. Ever. Again. This has the worst mixing, mastering, and overall production job I've ever heard. It's quite noticeable on cheap listening equipment. There is no dynamic range whatsoever, and the 'flashiness' of its supposed simplicity is worse than Lillywhite's production on a lot of Bomb. At least Steve still lets U2 keep a pretty epic sound... Saints is compressed away into nothingness, with everything except vocals virtually nonexistent (especially Larry and Adam).

im just hoping rolling stone nnouce something concrete, maybe something like they have heard a few complete songs and they review them, or that they have been working on it and it will be ot early next year, or at very least that they will work on it once the leg is over

Descriptions of a few possible songs will be a big win for us, just as long as it is not centred on whether Mercy or Winter will be on the album. If its something like "Kingdom of Your Love" will be put on the album then I am more than satisfied.

Although I better not build up this potential tower much higher as in the event of disappointment I could be pretty angry.

That is true, I predict we'll get this update in the next few days. I still wish Slow Loris could make a comeback, though. :hyper:

My Semi-Realistic Hope: A couple working song titles, generic "early/mid 2010" projection, new general description, "work on between legs"

Rolling Stone will probably confirm that Mercy is on the album, and then proceed to give us bunches of information by reviewing and describing the song.

Hopefully we also get something more than just a few sentences on the progress. If your hope is indeed correct, then we have some droolworthy information to last us another month or two, before hunger for more news kicks in.

If so, then i'd expect it to be tweaked quite a lot, maybe to a level when it is almost unrecognisable.

I strongly doubt it would be bad news. But if it was a "SOA will now be released in 2011/12" I will smash my keyboard.

RS: "Songs of Ascent will be released in October of 2050. The band will work with Brian Eno, Danny Lanois, and Flood in a recording-studio module of the International Space Station for a year, before going back to Hanover Quay and working to make 'this album something that the radio will want to play' for forty years thereafter, firing E/L/F, and finishing the album with Steve Lillywhite, Rick Rubin, Nick Jonas, Lil' Wayne, Ringo Starr, Roger Daltrey, Mick Jagger, Miley Cyrus, the 80s version of David Bowie, George Bush, Barack Obama, Tony Blair, Willie Williams, Dan Brown, Steve Jobs, Michael Eisner, the CEO of LiveNation, the CEO of ClearChannel, and The Edge all receiving production credits."
