Nah

its not recaptured the glory of yesterday

still 6.5/10

the lyrics are appauling - i like the chorus bit with "your beautiful"

submarine/gasoline rhymed together?

I agree with those who said that hardcore U2 fans are touchy so and so's

Not as bad as Scientology followers though so thats a consolation i guess

Ah, I wish we had the maturity of Oasis fans.

and a sense of humour

Anyone who thinks Oasis are gods would have to have a sense of humour right?

And I don't expect you to understand the lyrics, you're used to Liam and Noel's writing. Don't get me wrong they've written some decent tunes but nothing you really have to peel back any layers to understand...

how can an oasis fan bag the submarine gasoline line?

:im feeling supersonic, give me gin & tonic,
can i ride with you in your BMW, you can sail with me in my YELLOW SUBMARINE
have you ever played withe plasticine, or even tried a trampoline?

I must say, Oasis' shock of the lightning was a Fucking hit of a song.

and a sense of humour

I'd quit the Smiths - might develop one then:up:

Haha! That is the most unintentionally hilarious post I've ever seen. My post was (obviously!) tongue and cheek and then you get all huffy.

(Oh, and the Smiths broke up about 20 years ago--do try to keep up!)

whats all this nonesense then?

"You speak of signs and wonders
I need something other
I would believe if I was able
But I'm waiting on the crumbs from your table

You were pretty as a picture
It was all there to see
Then your face caught up with your psychology
With a mouth full of teeth
You ate all your friends
And you broke every heart thinking every heart mends"

Ok

"You free me from the dark dream
Candy floss ice cream
All our kids are screaming
But the ghosts aren’t real"

That is total tosh

and so is this

"Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound, now
God, I’m going down
I don’t wanna drown now
Meet me in the sound"

Even the Kaiser Chiefs must be thinking they are lyrical geniuses after this!

the sound of GOYB is great but lyrically its down there with this effort

"What did you learn today? (I learned nothin')
What did you do today? (I did nothin')
What did you learn at school? (I didn't go)
Why didn't you go to school? (I don't know)

It's cool to know nothin'
It's cool to know nothin'

Television's on the blink (there's nothin' on it)
I really wanna really big coat (with words on it)
What do you want for tea? (I want crisps)
Why didn't you join the team? (I just didn't)"

ok I think I'm a bit late for the party, but I've been hearing this song since early yesterday, I really really tried to like it and at first I thought it was going to grow on me like other songs but I still feel disappointed. For the past 1-2 years I've kept away from the beach clips or anything else that might have come up, I read the lyrics a couple of times and I think at least this song resembles lyrically, Vertigo/Crumbs/LoveandPeace

Anyway what really really kills the song for me is that whole "let me in the sound" lines,

Wow just checked the comments on youtube again, and the positives have once again ended, now the song is getting slated again,

i dont know if this is a good thing or a bad thing?

I'm changing my opinion on what other people think about U2. Personally I couldn't give a fuck. U2 could bring out the modern equivalent of Sgt.Peppers and people would still bitch and moan about it. Why do we need the confirmed love of U2 from other randomers to somehow justify our love for them? Sometimes I hate liking a band that have such a high profile that everyone has to have an opinion about. I think the old cliche is true with U2 that 'they will be great when they're finished' - i reckon when U2 is over, only then will the world realise the colossal impact they had on the face of music and how great they really were.

Also, the more people hate them, the more chance there is of me getting to plenty of gigs, and thats all I'm bothered about at this stage!

I've been listening to the song for almost two days now, not constantly, of course. The first two times were not really positive for me, I felt as if the song wasn't really finished, well, maybe not the song, the melody. After these two first times things have started to get better, I'm not in love with it, still, but I like it quite a lot, I like its playfulness, I feel the band were having a good time playing it and I enjoy that feeling and dancing, why not, along. I have a very positive thought about the boys not taking themselves too seriously and the new freshness. Of course it's not a masterpiece to go up there with Steets, One, WOWY, etc..., I wasn't expecting that from a first single, but my own reaction and the general reminds me of The Fly coming out, though I thought it was more of a shock back then.

You've pretty much summed up how I've been feeling!

I think this sums youtube up actually, this is a reply i got, and my comment was "i really like the song etc etc"

this is the reply:
"been 6 times. Saw them in their prime. This shit is just sloppy, get your ears checked."

That is total tosh

I'm guessing that a nice chunk of the detractors on this forum are the same people who failed the poetry sections of their literature classes, unable to find any meaning to the words on a page other than their literal definitions.

You know you're chewin' bubblegum
You know what that is and you still want some

If you get Pop, you get that those lines sum up the whole Pop experiment & message. If you don't get Pop, it's just a lazy bullshit line.

Sorry dude, but this post is made of fail. Never Miss A Beat is spectacular, lyrically as well as musically. And seriously, GOYB is some of Bono's best work in years.

"Satan loves a bomb scare, but it won't scare you," that line is genius.

I'm sure you're a nice person MadForIt, but on this point I must protest.

This may be the end of U2

This is the first time in my life that I can't get into a song of theirs.

Editors are now my #1 band with U2 stepping down to #2
