I could hardly feel more accomplished right now. Today is a good day. I think I'll have to walk over to the bottle-o and buy myself a nice wine or something.

And thank you, Trashley!

:hyper: :hyper:

And a :hyper: for Ashley's gig tomorrow, too!

Get something for me, because I'm really in the midst of a crisis right now. I don't have a way to the gig tomorrow.

nice work! how many words was it?

i don't like the word thesis. i never have, ever since i heard it used in 'the brave little toaster' when i was a kid.

Thanks everyone! And hello to newcomers.

What?! No buses? Too far for a taxi?

nice work! how many words was it?

12,717 ... if you add in footnotes, map captions, bibliography, all that shit, it was over 18,500.

I messed up my calculating on how much the cab was, and no bus runs directly there.

Take a bus to somewhere nearby and then get a taxi?

I truly don't understand it how you lot have stadiums that aren't served by any public transport even when big events are on.

I don't understand this system, it requires WAY oto many transfers and I'm not messing with it.

The bus only runs on game day.

I'm just really fucking upset right now

that sucks ashley. run, if it comes down to it, i say.

our public transport gets ragged on constantly but it serves the big events well.

and i complain at 2000! history?

I don't know what to make of the fact that we actually have the best public transport in the Southern Hemisphere. A lot of the criticisms are valid ... but we're a far sight better than most other places.

Haha, I'm now complaining that 12,000 is too short. PhD will be 80,000 and I'm already worried that won't be enough, though you can get special approval to write over 100,000.

Axver, can I apologise or can we call a truce or can I otherwise repent and come back? I miss hanging out here and I miss you guys, all of you. Please? I understand if you're still pissed off or whatever and I don't blame you.

What did you do your thesis on Ax?

The role of infrastructure in the centralisation of New Zealand statehood. Basically, I looked at the crucial role of public works policy in the abolition of New Zealand's provinces in the 1870s, then the role of infrastructure expansion in the 1880s-1900s into uncolonised regions where Maori had de facto sovereignty.

Yeah, I've nothing against you. I do believe I owe you a PM, in fact ...

best of luck ashley!

this is true. some of the criticism is unwarranted as well. like when trains got cancelled during those 45C days... that wasn't connex's fault, the tracks bent because they hadn't been welded properly.

my god man. :crack:

You never know, you could be the next...or the first famous person in that area

Haha. I'm going to do the history and demise of New Zealand's provinces in PhD ... if I can establish a name for myself amongst New Zealand academic historians, even if not in the wider community, that'd be nice.

Ooh, ooh, shotgun being one of the five.

As f you'd find it interesting!

I'm happy to pass it on if anybody wants a read though ... with due warning that the intro is tedious literary review since it's an academic requirement.

Oh yeah, it's been terribly convenient for the government - who are responsible for track maintenance - that everybody turned and blamed Connex. Connex weren't perfect, but they had precious little to work with and most of their faults were due to government inaction and a lack of funding.

Back, after it took me an hour and a half to reply to Ax's PM. Damn work interfereing with my internet socialising! :madwife: I'd catch up, but when do I ever?
