U2 360 Boxscore Discussion Part II

So, if Billboard's pre-determined total of $736,137,344 and attendance of 7,268,430 are correct, by subtracting Billboard's totals with the current total, Moncton's final attendance and gross should be around this:

July 30, 2011
Magnetic Hill Concert Site
Moncton, NB
$5,843,713
63,207 /
63,207
Average Ticket Price: $92.45

If the above results end up being the total after all, that would be very surprising, somewhat dissapointing. :yikes: The Rolling Stones will still hold the record for the largest concert in Atlantic Canada.

September 3, 2005
Moncton, NB, Canada
Magnetic Hill
GROSS: $7,223,197
ATTENDANCE: 89,260
SHOWS: 1
SELLOUTS: 1
Average Ticket Price: $80.92

Billboard came out with that number while Moncton was still onsale. They probably took something close to the tour's average attendance of 66,000. U2.com said there was 75,000 at the show and usually those number are very close to what the boxscore will be.

Interesting boxscore here by Bon Jovi this week...

#12
Bon Jovi
Zagreb Croatia
June 8, 2011
Stadion Maksimir

Attendance-33,698

U2 blew that away.

Zagreb Croatia
Aug 9,10 2009
Stadion Maksimir
Gross-$12,700,784
Attendance-124,012
2/2

A great example of how the term "sold out" is based on tickets made available. Not to mention that there is no "U2/Live Nation" conspiracy like some around here suggest. Bon Jovi "sold out" this show with 33k but U2 played to an average of 62 k per night. Now I know the 360 configuration increases capacity but not by 100% lol

What were the top 4 shows by attendance?

Assuming Live Nation and Willie Williams' Mexico numbers are correct:

Mexico City II - May 14, 2011 - 108,800 (Live Nation / Willie Williams' "official" figures)
Mexico City III - May 15, 2011 - 106,658 (Willie Williams' "official" figure)
Pasadena - October 25, 2009 - 97,014
Paris III - September 18, 2010 - 96,540

I think in a 180-degree configuration, that stadium can hold concerts with a capacity of 55,000 at most - with GA. And in some videos, the stadium was quite empty, and Bon Jovi's stage was placed a little more "inwards" towards the field and not at the end of the stadium.

I was at both Montreal and Moncton. Moncton looked like there was much more people there than Montreal. From my eye, they pushed 80,000 easily. I would be really excited if they made it to 90,000.

If confirmed that Mexico #2 figure is actually the North American record. Then Dead at 107k , then Mex #3, then maybe U2 Rosebowl at 97k. A mexican group is rumoured to have done 104,000 at Azteca in the round for a cheap charity show about a decade ago.

But because u2/LN/billboard won't honor the Mexico number the noffically those show each had attendance lower than Rosebowl.

If the above results end up being the total after all, that would be very surprising, somewhat dissapointing. :yikes: The Rolling Stones will still hold the record for the largest concert in Atlantic Canada.

I think that's a record for all of Canada, with U2's Montreal single night figure being #2/3. Sarstock 2003 was Stones headlined festival with 400k people.

I think it's better the way the 360 tour ended up working out schedule wise is due mostly to the fact it wasn't as much strain on Bono's voice. He clearly sounded better on this tour than the elevation tour and in most cases the vertigo tour.

I think Bono didn't sound as good in 2009 because his back stuff prevented him from being in full tour shape/stamina and his general all-around pain. not sure about back issues in 2005/2001.

Today's boxscores are out..

Sold out? 80.000 tickets on sale, according to DKD Event....

They initially stated that the event capacity would be maxed at 100k, so while a very solid number, it did not meet expectations at all.

This is very disappointing for the last show of the tour....

66,823 is not a 'low attendance' for a rock and roll show, but it did not meet the expectations....:hmm:

Great numbers? For me, alongside Turkey, it´s the most disappointing result of the whole tour.

I was being sarcastic. Very disappointing, for a concert venue that can bring as much as 90,000 people. Unfortunately, The Rolling Stones still hold the record with 89,260 in attendance.

Whats ironic about all of us being disappointed by these results is that this show would have been one of if not THE biggest show on the North American leg of Popmart in both attendance and gross.

Either way, unless I miscalculated, the U2 360 tour goes down in history grossing $736.4 million and played to 7.2 million!

Records for this tour:

Highest grossing tour
Highest grossing tour adjusted for inflation
Most attended tour
Highest average attendance per show (minimum 50 shows)
Highest average gross per show (minimum of 50 shows)
Highest average gross per show adjusted for inflation (minimum of 50 shows)

The key here is that this tour has every major/relevant record for a large scale tour in history...by far!

U2FanPeter has brought up the 3 Tenors and Barbra streisand in the past but those artists did not/could not tour to the capacity that U2 has on the 360 tour. I don't know the number of dates that those two acts toured but it was nowhere near 100.

U2 played MASSIVE shows in Australia, South Africa, South America, the United States, Mexico, Canada, Russia and all over Europe.

How many artists could draw 97k in Los Angeles, 88k in New York, 94k over 3 nights in Mexico, 80k over 2 nights in Montreal, 94k in South Africa, 96k in Paris, 88k in Berlin, 75k in Poland, 82 k in Greece, 60k in Russia, 54k in Turkey and 90k per night over 3 nights in Brazil!

The fact that if you put people from Turkey, Brazil, Russia, Africa, New York, Greece and France in a room, no one would know what the hell the other was saying not to mention that their cultures are so different. Yet, tens of thousands of each of these groups can all come together over U2's music is insane. :applaud:

Biggest tour ever....biggest band in the world! Congrats to U2 and thank you to everyone in this forum for providing valuable information about this tour over the past two years.

3 Tenors was about a dozen dates worldwide. Most of which probably are still single show gross records for cities/countires if they were published. Inflation adjusted figures from Toronto and New Jersey still stand. Babs tour never seemed to be more than roughly 2 dozen shows.

Going market by market, I was fascinated by how many attendance numbers are still held by other artists.

U2 should be applauded for hitting up a half dozen or so regions they were playing for the first or second time. I have trouble being too harsh when they could have sold more tickets. What's makes me curious is if "world domination" is this area is a future personal challenge to the band or not.
Maiden/Metallica/MJ/Bryan Adams/Dylan/BB King have played places I wonder if McGuiness can find on a map. AFAIK, u2 have done around 35 countries, most of the above names have done around 50, I think Bryan has claimed 70 and BB King claimed around 90(including most of Africa). This includes places that have sold 40,000 tickets and have deep pockets.

I swear there was more than that. It was raining and it seemed like more. The TV screen in Moncton also displayed 72,000 attendance at one point.

People who paid and number of people present are different. or perhaps walk up ticket sales was lower than expected. Salt Lake City(?) also had a screen number higher than the real number.

Most attended tour

Could Dylan's 2,400+ date, loosely named "Never Ending Tour", actually be higher if he averaged more than about 3,000 per show since 1988? Bob's never taken a break longer than what Bono or the Stones took on their last tours.

What are the specific "tour" qualifications that apply to Stones/U2 that don't apply to Dylan?

So U2360 ended with a gross of $736,421,584 with an attendance of 7,272,046. Wow.

Just amazing. Now we need to put this total in Wikipedia (replacing Billboard's unofficial totals)

I think the Minnesota U2 360 show might be the highest attended in that state. Its higher than any of Pink Floyd or the Rolling Stones shows in the state.

These are Iron Maiden boxscores from countries U2 have never visited. I guess we can assume that U2 would beat them in all markets:

weird about Moncton. Prior to U2 coming on when they have all the numbers, times etc. scrolling on the screen, they had one of the current capacity of Magnetic Hill. It was into the 73,000s I think. I have a picture of it, though obviously they could have just been going with expected numbers or something.

I was trying to find these boxscores (I live in Puerto Rico) and while they first came here in 2008, most of the people who saw the 2011 show had seen the 2008 show. U2 will definitely beat them here, Metallica brought in 17,000 last year (but we have a huge metal movement here), but U2 will definitely outdo them here. Someday.

I think more people stood outside and did not buy a ticket, because it was packed when looking at pics. Oh well. Definitely below my expectations.

What about the New Meadowlands attendance? That must be a record!

Concert Boxscore for the 2008-12-30 issue | Reuters

Who knew Andre Rieu has done one of the bigger Australian tours of all time? All number fall short of U2 but curious to see how it compares to ACDC, Pink, U2 360, U2 Vertigo and some others who've done big tours down under like MJ and Dire Straits.
