Today FM's Tony Fenton died earlier this weak at the age of 53. He was a great supporter of U2, always played their music and was friends with the band as well. Now a never before broadcast interview with Bono that was recorded "in recent times" is said to be aired very soon.

Fenton's good pal Ian Dempsey revealed the bittersweet news as he paid tribute to the DJ on his breakfast show yesterday.

He told devastated listeners that Tony had recorded an extensive interview with Bono at his Killiney home in recent times and played a short clip from the chat on air before explaining that the full interview would be aired soon.

In the interview, Bono tells Fenton he was a voice in the world of music and radio loved by the Irish public, during a career that spanned almost four decades.

He said: "You have been more consistent for the Irish public than U2."

Will be interesting to see if this interview was done before or after the accident. I'd say it's more likely that it was done in the weeks after the album release when Bono was doing all those interviews.
