3/3 - U2 wins the Best Group award while Bono picks up the Humanitarian Award at the Meteor Music Awards in Dublin. Bono says of Best Group award: ??It?s a fantastic night,? he said. ?I appreciate receiving these honours. I think it is the first time I have won awards for both my music and my passion outside music on the same night.? On a more serious note, Bono said, ?'While I am inspired to see people out on the streets to defend the potential loss of life in Iraq, two million Africans will die next year and the year after because they cannot get hold of medicine. I want to know why there aren't a million people out on the streets for this other forgotten war.? After the rousing awards ceremony, Bono and actor pal Colin Farrell later turned up at Renards nightclub for a nightcap.

3/8 - VHI VJ and big time U2 fan, Aamer Haleem, with his Top 20 Countdown camera crew in tow, visits the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?s U2 exhibit for the backdrop of the broadcast. Sections of the Museum shown on the Countdown were: the Anton Corbijn photo display, the Zooropa, Pop and Elevation tour outfits, the large Vidiwall showing U2 History mix, the PopMart stage mock-up, the display cases of War-Boy (including the first U2 shirt) and the hanging Trabants in the Rock Hall lobby.

3/9 - Bono makes the news for health problems, and worries fans the world over. His last-minute pullout from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony (he was to induct The Clash) was cited as the most worrisome example. Reasons for Bono's departure from the event have not been officially confirmed as of yet, however, U2News noticed media reports that suggested Bono was soon due to have a procedure done on his back, which might put the active singer out of commission for awhile.

Recent news articles, notably from Showbiz Ireland, have reported that the singer has been ducking out of public events for the past month or so. Bono's Conversation as part of the New York Times Arts&Leisure Weekend, originally scheduled for Sunday March 9th, was posponed until Sunday March 16th. A British newspaper, The People, reported: U2's BONO is in agony because of a pro-lapsed disc in his back. The 42-year-old singer was forced to lie down in studio this week. A friend said: "He's in a lot of pain."

3/10 - The Edge, with Audioslave?s Tom Morello, inducts The Clash into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in New York City at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. During his speech, Edge recollected what is was like to see The Clash in concert, ?By the end of the night Dublin was a different place. For everyone there that show was an awakening. The revolution had come to town.?

3/12 - Rolling Stone?s latest ?Rich List,? reports that U2 have fallen out of the exclusive club of entertainment?s biggest earners for 2002. This is largely due to no major albums or tours last year. For 2001, U2 led the ?Rich List? with the one-two juggernaut of All That You Can?t Leave Behind and the uber-successful Elevation tour.

3/14 - Famed U2 producer and musician Daniel Lanois tells a rapt audience at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas that he won?t be producing anything ?for about a year.? This could possibly be an indication that Lanois will not be helming the boards for U2 on their next album.

3/15 - Entertainment Weekly tips U2 to win the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 75th Annual Academy Awards on March 23rd in Los Angeles. From the magazine: First, the Academy listened to "Lose Yourself," by 8 Mile star Eminem. "Too cool," they sniffed. Then, they checked out "I Move On," John Kander and Fred Ebb's new Chicago tune. "Not cool enough," they said. Then they heard "The Hands That Built America," U2's reverent Gangs of New York theme. "Ahhh, just right." We can't wait to hear Bono's speech.

3/16 - MTV2 & Blender Present: 22 Greatest Voices' Contest yielded interesting results with our beloved Bono as the second highest ranked male rock singer at #4 - and the only one currently living (the first ranked being the late Freddie Mercury of Queen at #2).

Bono talks new U2 album, his back woes and more at the Graduate Center of CUNY in New York City as part of the New York Times? Arts&Leisure Festival ?Conversation? series. The garrulous singer contributes his back woes to ?having far too much sex for my age,? the new album as sounding like "a chainsaw starting up - maybe more cutting down of The Joshua Tree,? and Edge as ?very frustrated man who wants his singer back.?

Bono comments on the war in Iraq to MTV: "With the unimaginable levels of economic, cultural and military weight that the United States has, there must come humility and restraint," U2 frontman Bono declared. "I'm all for President Bush trying to scare the sh-- out of Saddam Hussein, but you have to bring along the rest of the world. ... People need to understand what this is about, and I support them all the way to the point where they go to war without the United Nations behind them. That is a mistake, because that looks like the U.S. doesn't need to explain itself, and I think it does."

3/27 - Hysteria breaks out with U2 fans worldwide with singer/actress Jennifer Lopez tells her official website during a webchat that she and Bono have duetted together on an as yet unnamed track which may or may not ever get released. "I did a song with Bono and haven't released it yet," Lopez said. "We were waiting for the right timing to release it, and haven't released it yet, so it would be great if that saw the light of day one day." There's no official word on whether the duet with Bono will be released.

This would not be the first time the pair would work on something together. In 2001, Lopez contributed vocals to Bono?s all-star remake of the Marvin Gaye classic tune, ?What?s Goin On??
