Wheeeee! My first folder on fire thingee! I don't think I've made a post that had more than 10 replies before.
Anyway, maybe I should explain my reasoning for starting the umpteenth "Creed Sucks" thread. Most of the time, Creed doesn't enter my thought process, because I'm too busy listening to U2, Pink Floyd, Moby, Led Zeppelin (heh heh), etc. But this quote in SPIN really irked me. It's actually not just this one quote, it's just the series of quotes and articles in which Scott Stapp and Creed have been trying to award themselves credibility solely on the basis that they have sold millions of records, and that they themselves think they are important.
Creed are basically a modern version of Journey. In their heyday, the 70's to early '80s, Journey had a string of million-selling albums and sold out concerts. They too were bashed in the press, labelled "corporate-rock." I'm sure that the members of Journey took themselves very seriously, and thought that they would be around forever. Fast forward 15 or so years: Journey now releases albums that no one buys, tours on the oldies ampitheatre circuit (not with Steve Perry, but with a sound-alike lead singer), and appears on Behind the Music. They are a band that no one takes seriously, has influenced no one, and have made no lasting impact in the music scene. Whether Creed like it or not, THIS IS THEIR FUTURE. They are already on their way, seeing as that they already have a Behind The Music episode!
Oh, and by the way, I'm very aware that Bono made some very outrageous comments back in the day, such as this one back in 1981: "There's a certain spark, a certain chemistry that was special about the Stones, the Who and the Beatles, and I think it's also special about U2." However, anyone can listen to the first notes of "I Will Follow" on their first album, and hear something that is totally original, a sound that would eventually change the world. There is no such sound or spark in the music of Creed. There are only shadows and poses.
Also, contrary to some others on this board, I think that arguements and disagreements are great, and are a healthy means of expression. Just because someone doesn't agree with a certain point or idea does not mean that they shouldn't be forthright with their opinion. But...we can at least be civil. The word "dogdick" doeesn't apppear in any conversation that I would deem civil, agreed?.
So, as I said before, I am happy to receive so many responses to my post, but let's keep it to a dull roar, okay? And let the Creed bashing continue!!!
