Take a hike! Dick Van Dyke!
Well, Bono did say that this is an album of "letters," with The Showman, for example, being a letter to the fans. Guess this is a letter to all the Freds, Neds, Jacks, and Zacks out there!
I don't have a huge opinion. It seems fun. And bouncy. And there are elements that are really good. I prefer "The Little Things..." as heard on Kimmel. That is a song I am really looking forward to hearing/hoping they didn't alter.
Vertigo, the comparison many are making, sold me with the lines from "They know that they can't dance, at least they know..." to the chorus. Something about that run of lyric got me, made me overlook any old man "bah" I had about the hugeness of the track.
This has potential to grab me in some way. I am thrilled to have it. But I am still looking forward to "The Little Things" most..
Who is Neil Finn? Guess he accomplished not being relevant with me!!
Just got home from a long day and I'm sure this has been said by others...
But who thinks that U2 takes the stage with this song on the E&I tour with the house lights up (a la Elevation tour) and the house lights go out and the stage lights shoot on when the first chorus hits: "When the lights go out!!"
I've done A LOT of looking on Twitter today. Have not seen a single negative comment about The Blackout. That's pretty remarkable.
After about 10 more listens, getting a Muse/White Stripes vibe which is cool and this song screams confidence and swagger from the boys, about time for some more rock n roll. This should kill live as the next tour opener, would be good to close out TJT as well, we will see. Guessing YTBTAM will get some love next month and Oct being the first single though on the rest of TJT. Do you guys realize how golden of an age this is? Album 2014, Tour 2015, Tour 2017, Album 2017, haven't seen this much action since AB/Zooropa era I believe.
We got a few at U2gigs, but you're right, the positive reactions have been plentiful.
And although I'd prefer there not to be crowd noise, some people in this thread are really exaggerating how distracting it is.
I think folks need to remember this video was meant as an album teaser to get people amped up. They likely included the crowd noise to prevent it from being misinterpreted as the first radio single. When it's later released as a single, which I think is likely, we might even get another more proper video.
I'm also encouraged that we haven't heard any reports of fans being called in for a Best Thing video shoot. That probably means that songs video will not be a performance vid.

Only the most famous and accomplished musician to ever come from New Zealand, with global hits under his own name and in Crowded House and Split Enz.
But hey, stay ignorant of great music if that's what floats your boat.
It's been pretty cool this last month being a fan of the Finns, with Neil recording his album live on the Internet and getting Tim and Liam and so many others along for the sessions. But it's not comparable because U2 would never be relaxed or comfortable enough in their own skins to do it, they seem to need the discomfort. And of course U2 have been desperate for global chart success. Neil, after being considered daggy in the late nineties, has just done his own thing - and, hilariously, achieved so much more cred than U2. He's now the "cool dad" of the Aussie and Kiwi music scenes and has never been more respected. Without trying, he's become, at least in this part of the world, what U2 want to be.
Well, I think TBT video will be a live performance type video. They shot live footage stuff during TJT tour. Who knows.
Listening again now. Zoo Station vibe during the intro.
