Question about Bono from an awards show....

I'm trying to recall an awards ceremony that was televised a few years back (not sure how many years) in which Bono's cigarette and drink had to be taken away from him before he could make a speech. It was aired in the States, and I think it was an American awards show, but I'm not positive. Does anyone know what this might be and what year it was from?

Was it the AMA's? Not sure what year, but I recall that happening.

Was it taken away because nobody was allowed to make a speech with either a drink or smoke? Or were people being buttheads?

I think it was because no one was allowed to bring drink or smokes to the stage.
