Mount Disappointment was the first installment in our emo mountain trilogy, and for the second installment, we stay in Victoria and hit Mount Difficult. Located in the Grampians National Park, its name rather unsurprisingly stems from its rugged and difficult nature. In January 1999, life became really difficult when a lightning strike on Mount Difficult sparked a forest fire that burnt approximately 7,000 hectares of property. To complete our trilogy, Mount Difficult will be followed by Mount Hopeless.

Mt Difficult Fire - Grampians National Park - 1999

Here you can see some vegetation on Mt Difficult recovering from another fire. This was taken in 2006, shortly before my friend's car broke down, stranding a group of us up there. He had to wait several hours for the roadside assistance people to arrive.
Mt Difficult is well-named.

Australian vegetation, recovering from fire? Shock!

I know! It was so unusual, I had to take a photo.

I rather wish I'd got a pic of the grass trees' regrowth, actually... it looked quite cool, with the fan of bright green surrounded by black burnt stuff.

Speaking of posts at the end of the last thread - Ali, how's the scanning going?

Well, the good news is that this scanner is better than my parents', although it is still oddly reluctant to acknowledge the colour blue. But I'm not colouring it any darker, so it can just live with it. Now I just have to crop the thing square, and I have a cover. Woot.

Leave you be, Daniel? No, this is the Superthread. We probably will turn it into a tradition, just for you.

I remember when we had a minor bushfire near where I lived on the Gold Coast - the green regrowth amidst the burnt-out tree trunks looked pretty neat there too. But back in those days, I didn't have a camera and wasn't into photography or anything.

Hurrah!

I wonder what scanners have against blue, though?

Buggered if I know.

Well, bed time for me. I'll finish the paragraph tomorrow, and then it will all be done.

Seeya dudes

Blasted scanners. Well, at least you'll have it all done soon! Have a good night!

(Just cos Ax would have a heart attack if I actually left when I said I would...)

I wonder how Liverpool got its name.

And I'm rather proud of myself for not drawing attention to the rocks in that photo, or the geology of the Grampians in general.

Of course, I just blew it by saying that. :nerd:

Heh, I remember thinking a while back that we should take the Superthread to Liverpool one day. The only problem is it feels like such a mainstream place that you don't really register how odd the name is most of the time, or at least I don't.

I was certainly expecting you to insert some geology nerd comment.

Tumbleweeds: The other Serena signal.

Hey Axver!
How are you?

GG2's nerding it up today at a Pokemon convention, alas!

I'm doing pretty well. A wee bit bored, I suppose. Though I do need to make some tracklists, since my Mum's birthday and Father's Day are both coming up this week and I always give hastily cobbled together music gifts since I'm shit like that.

Yourself?

Not only am I postwhore, but I'm a batsignal whore too.

 Somehow this fails to surprise me.

Aww, well happy early birthday to her! My mum's birthday is in December and there's really nothing around Father's Day here for me except ... Father's Day!

I'm pretty good. Slept for ages though. Hey, at least I feel better today! Yesterday just sucked, though the late morning hours were quite epic! I still stand by my statement: I type better drunk.
Also contemplating changing my theme soon, maybe. I'm being indecisive.

This is a busy time of year for me. My Nan's birthday is a bit later in September, and my uncle's birthday is tomorrow - well, today - but due to family drama, none of us are talking to him since he seems to not want anything to do with the family any more, so I don't have to worry about that. Can't say I care. I've intentionally stayed entirely out of the drama.

Good to hear you're feeling better! The medsposting was classic, though.

April's the busy time here. My dad's birthday and the fiance's are just a day apart, then her daughter's birthday is a little later in the month and some other people in her family also has birthdays in that month. July has mine and two of my cousin's birthdays as well. That's about it or the busiest times here!

Don't you love family drama?

Thanks!
 Yeah, it was, wasn't it? I read a lot of it later that evening and . Now see, why can't I type like that when I get drunk? I have to be wasted for that to happen.

The other busy time for me is January. So many of my friends seem to have been born then! The 9th, 14th, 15th, and then myself on the 17th. Though I don't really hear from any of them any more ... Kate for obvious reasons, the other two just because we've drifted apart since I left New Zealand/Queensland.

God, family drama's so fucking useless. I don't see the point of even wasting energy, so I haven't bothered.

Haha, it sure brought the lulzy entertainment ...

Ah, right. I'm not too close to my cousins so nothing ever really goes on then. When my grandma was still alive, we usually had a party on my birthday since mine was in the middle of the three of us but that has since ceased to be. None of my friends ever had birthdays near mine.

It is. Family's supposed to be there for each other and all that sappy shit but a lot of the time they just fight and it's total, useless fucking fail. And those are usually the worst dramas because in my experience, you get made to take sides and shit.

Heh, think of that as making up for the lame drunkposting I've done this past month and a half.

Hurrah, I thought of a present for my father! I can't remember what U2 he's actually got, since my tracklists of U2 are hopelessly labelled and I've no idea which went to Mum and which went to Dad. Does he have the one of early b-sides? Of non-album 2000s songs? I've no fucking clue! And I think he has most of the studio albums. So instead I'll show off my tracklisting skills a bit and send him some of my custom versions of the regular albums. I'll do the alternate Joshua Tree that I'm so proud of, and ... perhaps Achtung Baby or War.

I'm useless at remembering birthdays outside of January. Odds are, I'll remember the birthdate of somebody in January and completely blank on anybody who isn't Mum or Dad outside of that month. I'm notorious for forgetting birthdays - and for not caring about birthdays in general anyway.

This current bollocks in my family was particularly avoidable. But if some people want to be attention/drama whores ...!
