"LOve Like Rain"

Sitting on the corner of my beat up couch
The lights are turned to blue
So many channels flipping in my eyes
But I'm only thinking of you

Bobby calls from a near pay phone
Next to the bar at nine
Wants to play the game of drown your sorrows
But I tell him maybe next time

He says our love is like rain
Says our love is like rain
As it falls gently on my window pane

Back and forth goes the pocket watch
I stare hypnotized
She says if you want this thing to work
You gotta stop looking at my brown eyes

I said I know Doc I wish I could
You remind me of someone I know
Someone I used to hold onto
Someone I'll never let go

She says our love is like rain
Says our love is like rain
As it goes away then comes back again

Dick Clark is counting them down
Another New Year's eve
I got the ugly girl I used to know in High School
Sleeping on my flannel sleeve

I say wake up child its Twelve O'clock
Another year rolled over
Hurry up and kiss me now
Before I get too sober

She says our love is like rain
Says our love is like rain
And you're trying to bottle it like its Korbel Champagne

Her brown eyes filled up like rain
Her red hair dancing like rain
Her voice touching me like rain
And her love just the same...

The girl behind the counter at the grocery store
She's checking out more than food
And even though she's looking at me
I'm only thinking of you

She says "What's your problem?"
I say, "Don't worry babe, I'm just looking at your eyes
They're brown and hazy like a cloudy day
Like someone I recognize"

I guess our love is like rain
I know our love is like rain
And I'll try, try to refrain
Yes I'll try, try to abstain

But it falls gently on my window pane

great lines tackleberry, especially the final chorus..makes a superb final refrain to a song

I guess our love is like rain
I know our love is like rain
And I'll try, try to refrain
Yes I'll try, try to abstain

it does sound like a song, it has such wonderful rhythm to it. can you write music to go with it? I think that would be so cool. I like the way everything ties together in the poem with the rain and the eyes...

tomorrow's just an excuse away
so I pull my collar up and face the cold, on my own...
