Bono in Germany June 6 2007

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Thanks for all the great stills, HC! :D:up:

Well, I finally (took quite a while! ) figured out how to rip "Carry That Weight"! :hyper:

So, for anyone interested here's a link to the mp3:

I couldn't get the entire speach in the beginning, and if you're a real music-:nerd: the quality probably isn't 100%, but it's good enough for me! Enjoy!

This is what the Canadian Press is saying..

Hey Bono! Check out the facts
By LICIA CORBELLA

Prime Minister Stephen Harper getting bashed by Bono yesterday
dominated the news from the closing day of the G8 Summit in
Heiligendamm, Germany.

Besides being miffed that Harper -- who claims to be a U2 fan --
couldn't fit a meeting with the international rock star into his
schedule earlier in the week, Bono accused Harper of "blocking" a deal
on African aid at the G8 summit.

The leaders of the world's eight most prosperous democracies pledged
$60 billion in aid to the world's least prosperous countries which is
largely a reiteration of promises already made.

But Bono -- who flies around the world urging western democracies to
use taxpayer dollars to forgive Third World debt on the one hand and
then moves his business from Ireland to avoid paying taxes on the other
-- is singing from the wrong song-sheet when it comes to slamming
Canada and its commitment to helping Africa.

Firstly, Harper emphatically denied he blocked any deal and pointed out
that Canada is the only G8 country on track to meet its commitments to
Africa made in Gleneagles, Scotland two years ago.

In fact, Canada is ahead of schedule to meet its commitment.

"We happen to believe that when it comes to aid money that the full
framework of accountability is very important," said Harper who praised
the aid framework that will ensure foreign aid dollars go towards
helping poor people and not enriching an African despot.

Right. Canadians want to help Africans with AIDS to stay alive using
anti-retroviral drugs and to help them gain better access to education
and clean water.

Answering a question in the House of Commons yesterday Foreign Affairs
Minister Peter MacKay pointed out that "Canada will double its
international assistance from 2001 to 2010, with assistance to Africa
also doubling in that time frame."

Canada plans to increase its Africa funding to $2.1 billion for
2008-09, from $1.05 billion in 2003-04 and African aid makes up 40% of
all Canadian foreign aid. What's more, Canada's foreign aid budget is
growing by 8% per year.

It can always be argued more can be done for the world's poor. But
bashing a country that's doubling its foreign aid seems to be hitting
the wrong note.

this is quite a bashing.. I don't know what else to say.. Actually they don't have their facts straight..

Thanks to BF and to hcbiggs and anyone else who has posted pics from the other day in Rostock.

I especially love this one. It shows Bono doing one of his favorite things - talking!!

The man who he is talking with in this picture (the man in the green print shirt wearing the white band) is Kumi Naidoo, who is the head of the Global Call Against Poverty (GCAP).

GCAP is ONE's mother organization and you can find out more about it by checking out this link:
