A Land of Backward Time
A land of backward time
where children learn to fend for themselves
before they are even born.
A land of backward time
a place where death occurs each day
because there is no water
and food becomes a staple
which the rest of the world consumes.
There is no rest
there is no peace
only sleep comes on deathbeds as
corruption’s face and turmoil’s plight
turn hope into bitterness.
Intentions...the best of plans
never fruitition bring
as something always stands in the way
in a land of backward time.
Children wanting parents
as AIDS takes on a victory march
but it has been going on for years
nothing new only re-done photos
of the bareness of it all.
Eyes so red with tears as
newly built coffins are laid to rest
in a land of backward time.
Poverty consumes the soul
loneliness awaits each day
a want for purpose to awake
instead of digging soil to plant a life
they bury a lost life there
in a land of backward time.
It make take years . . .
a step a day may save a life
but days eventually turn to years
and salvation may lead the way . . .
in a land of backward time.
A future can begin right now
and a land of backward time
can catch up to tomorrow . . .
and bring it forward to today.
