Does anyone think that You're the best thing about me will be a straight U2 song or will there also be a Kygo mix released?

Listened to blackout easily 20 times now. Love the song, love the start, verse chorus and ending. Great tune

One negative for me so far is the lyrics of zach ,Ned and jack . These been added in just because they rhyme ? Think it would be better bono repeated back and said. I can handle jack as I've heard that used before but Ned and zach??

It's a nod to the U2 episode of Saved by the Bell, duh

I've decided I can't listen to the song anymore. I hear "Jack" and immediately think of Confederate General Stonewall Jackson. And I hear "Zach" and immediately think of slaveholder Zachary Taylor. We need to ban U2.

U2.com has all been blacked out and the video is on the entrance page of the website

New two cents' worth thought:

The "when the lights go out" first line of the chorus is a similar melodic/lyrical line to The Best Thing's first line of the verse, "when you loook so good." Probably not intentional but maybe they're related/mirrored in some way (a poppy good times song and a dark bad times song).

That is all.

I really want to hear a better recording of the song.

Song is really growing on me! Love the rhythm

This song will be the intro I'm sure of the 'Experience Tour'

Just think.....next arena tour (maybe stadium)......lights go off.....crowd cheers.....band goes on stage........that Edge intro goes off.....ERUPTION FROM THE CROWD :applaud:

My wife made a good point about 'Black Out' yesterday and how it can tie with the Innocence album/tour. They had the metaphor/symbol of the light bulb turning on.....now with Experience its turned off (Black Out) ...pretty cool

It's hardly The Edge's best effort, but I think the guitar is alright! It does its job; it really is a bass and drums song overall, and the guitar does nothing to distract from that.

Also, this really sounds like a show opener. They haven't done something this groovy since Pop.

Correct. Right or wrong, my favorite U2 songs are Edge dominant.

I think the lyrics in Song For Someone "there is a light, don't let it go out" is possibly a reference to Blackout. SOI was about the light while SOE is about Blackout.

So after about a dozen listens I'm very happy with this song. It feels less 'forced' than 'Boots' or 'The Miracle'. Those songs seem like they were trying 'rawk' and the feeling of those songs is they were trying to find a 'Vertigo'.

The Blackout is danceable and rockin' at the same time. Like they figured out a happy medium and fused it together...the lyrics...whatever...Bono's voice is in fine shape and the band PUMP throughout the song.

Remembering the Apple/SOI rollout and hearing 'The Miracle' for the first time, I remember Tim Cook saying "Isn't that the BEST single ever" and thinking, "that's U2 by the numbers". I like 'The Miracle' but it's NOT a single.

Looking forward to hearing TBT...and a real version of 'The Blackout'...:hyper:

I think while the SFS/Blackout comparisons are pretty obvious, I think the bigger point is the Innocence and Experience.

SFS is sickly sweet. Idealistic. Blackout is mechanic, and polished. I think William Blake would be proud.

Good morning fam. After catching up on the daily news I had time to pour myself a sick cup of tea. While preparing for the days' events this morning at my place of employment I had time to listen to The Blackout a few times. I must say, the new track is quite lit. Upon repeated listenings it's quite apparent that Adam Clayton is really laying down dank bass lines. Well, I must now go into a meeting with my work bitches. Have a splendid day everyone.

soooooooooooooo.....

is it just me, or has every mention of the album announcement been removed from their official statements online?

still see the bit about Best Thing next week.. but everything else RE new album...?
