Hmm...no screens?

That's probably their most stripped-down stadium stage since the original Joshua Tree Tour. I like what they did with the PA - above the stage and not blocking anyone's view.
Clearly the stage is under construction and not complete in that picture. They wouldn't leave the backdrop open, and Willie already confirmed video in Rolling Stone.

I'm just assuming that since half of the tree backdrop is already assembled (according to that video), then it will take up the entire space. Unless the backdrop will only show up when it's time to play the album. We shall see...

my bad i didn't see the videos and thought you were speaking of the original photos we saw this morning...

that is odd - willie specifically said there would be video this time around. so unless the unfinished section on adam's side is all video screen, i have to imagine that the tree canvas somehow can also be used as a video screen. the second video posted seems to show the left side lit up as if it were a screen, so we'll see. might be a new tech, developed with all that major production bread and all.

Just saw that. Very interesting.

Yeah it kind of looks like the tree canvas is the screen

Just like Popmart screen (sorry I keep bringing up Popmart)

he's added a Joshua Tree Tour link to his website... nothing really to see on the JT17 page other than the start date but the image that you click on to get to the page is of a gold and gray Joshua Tree, and there does appear to be a bit of a seam or bend in the image of the tree... maybe it's cropped down from a full on mock-up of the stage

Why is the stage super high? It looks like there are ramps leading up to a platform that's on the rail by the main stage

That smaller ramp looks like it's about a couple feet off the ground and obviously temporary.. Stage looks like it's about 10 feet high or so... 360 the center stage was around the same, nd seems rather standard. Stadium stages are always a little higher for obvious reasons. I think it only looks bigger to you because then floor is empty.

Yeah, that's probably it. What's the reason why stadium stages are higher? Is it so they can fit all the stuff beneath the stage?

Seating starts higher off the field than arena seating starts off of the floor, its just the nature of the beast that the stage would be higher than an arena or theater stage.

Now this is an actual helpful answer that isn't just "because it's a stadium"

The asymmetry of it all seems a little odd, I wonder what that's about...
The fact that the tree-stage is an odd asymmetrical shape, or the fact that it, & the catwalk are not centered with the main stage? From memory both ZooTV Outdoor & Popmart stages were asymmetrical, with b-stages that were pushed to one side of the field. Along with Vertigo Outdoor's 2 ellipses out to the sides, though the stage was symmetrical.

It will put the crowd right in front of Bono, unlike the i+e main stage. Also means they can push the RZ out to the side a bit, but still give them some catwalk action, ala 360. But as has been mentioned, the catwalk, & therefore the RZ, do look to be pushed over to the side more than expected. Some RZ'ers won't be happy :crack:

Also, many more people on the field. The further away you are on the field, the tougher it is to see over the crowd, back to the band members on the main stage.

I struggled to see anything on the main stage at one of my i+e shows, even though I was looking over part of the e-stage (so had nobody directly in font of me for maybe 10m). Though I am short  Wasn't a problem looking over the crowd from the outer catwalk for 360, or over the ellipse & crowd for Vertigo Outdoor.
