** SPOILERS** The soundcheck thread

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I was listening to Pop last weekend in the car on CD (haven't heard it in a while)!!!

After the phoenix shows I went to, there is no reason Discotheque or Last Night On Earth should not be played on this tour.

Discotheque on the B-Stage w/ the Mirror Balls

Last Night On Earth to open the 2nd encore. That song would destroy arenas!

Encore:
Last Night On Earth
City of Blinding Lights
Streets

There is no reason why they should not play anything from POP. This great album is so being ignored by U2 it's not funny anymore. I wonder what is holding them back from playing songs from the POP album.

Gone would've fit on any of the past two tours. Last Night On Earth would've gone great wth the spaceship theme of last tour, Gone's Suit of Light line with the LED jackets... Discotheque sequence with Crazy Tonight as was snippeted could've EASILY been done the whole song and it would've been amazing. Please shouldn't be that hard...

And instead we got In A Little While x10000.

Why U2, Why? :crack:

Yes, yes and yes to the last several posts on POP. I hope they add some songs during the next leg!

The soundcheck thread

Actually, I think Last Night On Earth would be a sick way to close the opening set. That intense, scalding outro would be an insane way to head into intermission and would probably leave the audience a bit disoriented.
The graphics were pretty sick on Popmart, I can't imagine how even more amazing they would be with the new screens.

imo it could easily substitute UTEOTW for nights #3 or #4 in cities that have many gigs
the graphics they have now and confetti would fit nicely with LTOE
sweet dreams
too bad they think LTOE was a throwaway

There's no way Bono can pull that one off anymore. Maybe Edge could do the falsetto parts?

If they wanted to they could have reworked the whole thing to avoid falsetto and it would sound as good, I think.
For me personally it's not only the falsetto that makes it so great, it's the whole structure, transitions, bassline, Edge's parts.
If done right it would carry itself even if Bono's vocals weren't the best

Yeah we need some POP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!¨
We need we need..... already with 360 Tour, they missed so many great songs from this album that could have been unreal with the 360 stage setup!

Wondering if someone else close to the band is telling them to play Beautiful Day, In a little while, Pride, ISHFWILF and all the other warhorses in cirlces over and over or if U2 don't listen to anyone else....

They could blow the house down with Discotheque, Mofo, Gone, Please, Acrobat, Fez, ASOH, etc..... and still play songs everyone know, even the casual fans. After all, there is only 10'000 people in the Arena, this is not a stadium show with people just knowing the best of.

More POP, yes, and more Zooropa. Its like U2 is playing their most early work, and most recent work with a huge gap of originality inbetween. So much missing. On the other hand I really appreciate them not chickening out on the new album this time.
Altough this could still happen by the time they hit Europe.

I will be shocked if they bail on SOI on this tour. The entire first half of the show is designed to tell the story of their early years, just like SOI.

By contrast, the 360 tour (when they bailed on NLOTH) could have been in support of any album - by any band. There was no thematic connection between the production and the record whatsoever. That tour was about playing to as many people as possible, plain and simple.

ETA: And besides, the songs on SOI are good. NLOTH did not have good songs. There, I said it. Flame away. :)

I for certain won't flame away. since I'm with you on the SOI opinion :):):)
I think there even might be ... dare I say.... Great songs on it.

:hi5: I like it better than NLOTH but I wouldn't say it "didn't have good songs on it.
MOS, Unknown Caller and NLOTH (II) are some fantastic tunes.

Now not to derail this thread any further. *sulks out*
