Worst of U2 Album: Create your own

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Stranger in a Strange Land is one of the worst. The opening riff is promising then it turns into a lame musical story about Bono eye-boning some foreigner. At least that's what I remember of it that last time I listened to.

It's a shame ATYCLB had some real trash. And IALW is severely overrated

You should try listening to that song again, that's not what it's about at all.

Stranger in a Strange Land is the early version of a great song they never made.

Same applies to half of the October album.
October is an early version of the Salomé Outtakes.

Don't think there's a U2 song I really 'hate' but I was shocked reading that some of my favorites were on someone's list

I'm on that same boat... there are several songs that I'm often not in the mood to listen to them, but I'm surprised by people disliking so much so many songs I really enjoy.

I was surprised you had Magnificent on your list. I can see someone saying its U2 paint by numbers, but I might still hang it in an art gallery.

I was also surprised to see Desire and Bullet the Blue Sky each get a mention. Maybe it's War Horse fatigue.

like I said, I don't actively hate songs.

I don't like the Magnificent "chorus" (Mag-niiii-ficeeent).
Something similar happens to me with Iris' "Hold me clooose|".

Recently I've found out that if I send a song I'm not really interested in listen to it to the back end of its own album, I'm a lot more receptive to enjoy it.
I'm enjoying Magnificent a lot between WAS and COL.

the lesson should be learn to not say "that song is garbage" instead of "I don't like that song". Every masterpiece is trash/boring/useless for someone else, and U2 musical horizons are wide enough that you'll find a bit of everything in the catalog.

Peace on Earth is a pretty little song, never understood the hate for it.

The first thing I think of when I think of POE are those stupid lines about there being not many trees/using them on our enemies.

Anyone who hates Love Rescue Me doesn't have a soul.

Of course I have no soul.

 Totally agree on both songs. Moreover, Bono's vocals on Love Rescue Me are incredible.

When the song reaches its peak, the horns blaring and Bono wailing...great moment.

It's long and the verses aren't really catchy, but what a strong finish.

I mean seriously.

Yes. Luckily U2 is a big tent.

Of course I have no soul.
You can stay. See above.

1. All Because of You - Mainly because of that screeching sound at the start, to start of the album.
2. Stand Up Comedy
3. Elvis Presley & America
4. Miami
5. Yahweh
6. The Star Spangled Banner from Rattle & Hum
7. ISHFWIL from Rattle & Hum
8. If you wear that Velvet Dress
9. Peace on Earth
10. Get on Your Boots
11. Wild Honey

Holy shit.

I don't know whether I want to laugh until I poop myself or put on sackcloth and wail for the state of society.

Yes its a Jimi Hendrix thing but it is on the studio album and it doesnt fit anywhere hence i put in in there. Its so weird etc also the I still havent found what im looking for from R & H is pretty horrible imo. Dont like the whole gospel choir thing at all.

This thread makes me exceedingly happy.

I actually felt dread at the thought of flipping through the tracks on POP. I knew that there were some clunkers and hadn't listened to it probably since 1999, but I'd forgotten the actual, physical revulsion I get at some of those tracks, ha! Christ!

Something that I shocked myself by not including was Yahweh. I hated it when it came out, but listening to the Bomb again, I found I like it now a lot more than I did then. And Yahweh shockingly didn't make me cringe. I think if I heard it on the radio today, I'd be happy, and it would sound better than anything else played around it.

Mine is pretty short:

Wake up Dead Man
Stuck in a Moment
Peace on Earth
When Love Comes to Town
If God Will Send his Angels
Red Light
Playboy Mansion
If You Wear That Velvet Dress

And bonus points for the person who mentioned the ringing at the end of Zooropa. That's totally between each of my tracks.

And yes, I actually like October back to front. I like the spirit of it, and definitely have listened to it more times over the years than POP. Lots of sneakily cool bass lines in there and bizarre song structure. And I don't mind wailing, shaky voiced Bono. Kind of dig it. Listening to it right now.

so that one not, but Freedom For My People passes the test?...

also, I would like to say that my heart rejoices that When I Look At The World is not even close to this thread. Maybe once or twice, but not like some of the rest of the album.

Seriously, what the hell possessed them to put Freedom For My People on the album.

Rattle & Hum suffers from an identity crisis. It doesn't know if it is a live album, album of new music or a tribute covers project. Including interview excerpts and Jimi Hendrix music, R & H is one of the biggest mistakes the group ever made.

U2 had a chance to make a kick ass live album like Springsteen's stellar Live/75-85 or Depeche Mode 101 but they instead threw it away. What about tacking the new material onto a second disc/tape/record/8 track whatever and not fucking with the live stuff which could have greatly enhanced the bands career. I mean they had so many stellar performances of wonderful songs on the movie, why not have those on the album (Cmon the live version of SBS from the film was legendary in itself).

Wasted live tracks of covers by Beatles and Dylan are tacky and just plain bad. Americans don't need to be schooled on their music (Jazz and Blues and Country) by 4 Irish guys!

I hope to hell they remaster this album with all that glorious live material from the movie and do it right.

(Sorry guys for going off on a tangent.)

I must like Rattle and Hum, for all its faults, way more than a lot of people. Is it a bit shaky around the edges? Sure. An odd 'album' paired with a probably way superior live concert film? Yes. Biggest mistake the group ever made? Naaaah. And even if it were, a band is allowed, I hope, to make those kind of mistakes. Artistic mistakes.
