Yeah, maybe you're right. I don't know. Not to be mean, or anything, but he doesn't have to do much, and the show's a month away. I would think he could go out there for a couple hours and be ok, but this isn't exactly a thing I'm familiar with. I last had surgery when I was 8 and that was for something way, way more severe, so I was in the hospital for a month, altogether, nevermind the at home stuff afterwards.

The injury's pretty bad, definitely worse than I think anyone here expected, but I doubt it would put him out of action for Almost Acoustic Christmas. Plenty of recovery time and it wouldn't affect his singing.

Bloody lucky it wasn't any of the other band members though. Bands have been put out of action for months thanks to lesser injuries; the New Zealand post-rock band Jakob were basically on hold for about two years when one member was in a car crash that damaged his arm.

On the upside, this may mean Bono won't inflict his guitar playing/wearing on us for a while!

Holy shit, that really does sound horrible. But I am trying to figure out how you can injure yourself that badly by falling off a bike after trying to avoid another collision..? Like I've fallen off a bike a few times and gotten hurt but how does your arm bone break into six pieces AND pierce the skin? Yikes.

Yeah...Compound fractures as you get older are no joke. If it was his leg he'd be down a good while. I hate the sound of that eye socket fracture too. The thing about multiple fractures in various places is almost assuredly he will need painkillers for a few days maybe even weeks. That's what does you in imo, both while on them and the aftermath coming off. I'm 3.5 weeks out of a relatively less serious facial day surgery and I still have days where i feel like an absolute sack of shit. And weird bursts of major pain that I thought were over. I feel for the guy, not because he's Bono but just because he's got a few things going on there that are going to be pretty painful. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't do the Xmas show at all, especially if he will be doing therapy during that time.

My concern is that he is 54. Injuries don't heal as quickly at this age.

I injured my shoulder blade when I was 19 and was able to recover relatively quickly through a mix of pain killers, a sling, and luck. I don't think he will have that luxury.

Majorly broken arm, broken shoulder blade, broken eye socket, broken pinky. Do I have that right?

Obviously the arm is the worst thing here. I have injured my shoulder blade and have a permanently broken pinky and those things are no fun either.

I broke my pinky too, and it's still crooked. We r teh twinz!1

how's everybody feeling about those bike jokes in that Bono get well thread now?

I AM A HORRIBLE ASSHOLE AND I LOVE IT.

apparently Bono just needs a smack habit and all this will sort itself out in a month or so...

One of the funniest 'lost in translation' things I've ever seen.

(I mean, I'm assuming he meant oxycontin or whatever other opiate they give as painkillers these days. Maybe heroin IS the new go-to drug preferred by 9 out of 10 physicians.)

I used it for two days so that I could sleep. Once I could sleep without it I stopped using it. Not something you want to use more than necessary.

Holy shit. Those injuries soynd awful. He's only a little older than me, and that would put me out of commision for several months.

My boyfriend had similar injuries from a bike accident when he was 28. He was out of commission for six months. At 54, these injuries are very serious. I think the doctor's statement of "intensive and progressive therapy" speaks to that. I wonder if it's his dominant arm.
