That the tweet is gone reduces my confidence that the album won't be released this month from about 99% to about 95%.

Lol I was going to post something similar.

i don't know tho, reading that guy's tweets he sounds like a bit of a U2 fan who might just want the scoop - there's a fair few U2 fan references in his tweets... is he legit?

He mentioned them during the SB, but I had to dig down through his tweets to see that. Not another mention of them until today.

Going back further than the SB; one mention on 1/31. Lots of Grammys tweets. And one of those was a Hunter Hayes one with a U2 ref.

I mean, I tweet about U2 more than that. Hell.

i said "bit of a U2 fan" not a "die-hard nutter" :D

(let's just say, he mentions U2 more than the average person)

It will be interesting to see if this record is "delayed" and comes out later, or they plan to surprise us and release it "early".

What was the date in the official announcement again?

It's highly unlikely he was asked to take it down (close to zero chance). He most likely just freaked when all the attention piled in - whether the tweet was true or not, right or not. People forget they're not just talking to their mates, and/or if he was really told that by a buddy at Interscope, he would have felt like he'd just fucked up.

well, as it stands right now, it's not early or late as no date has ever been mentioned

and you KNOW there has never been an official announcement anyway

yep, i don't do twitter, but would he be able to see sites linking to his tweet, and maybe freaked?

I don't buy it...they'll release a 'lots of hits' chart friendly single to lead the album at least 2 weeks before. Invisible, as good as it is, isnt the lead single. I think it makes more sense for U2 to ride on the invisible/ordinary love wave until the oscars then drop the proper lead single the following week, album two weeks later.

I use twitter. Quite regularly.

You can't see anything but retweets/favorites.

He'd had maybe 4 people RT it and a couple favorites after about 4 or 5 hrs of it being up.

I'm wondering if HE took it down, or if it was pulled. :hmm:

For example: my copying/pasting his original tweet
https://twitter.com/ClaytonsKitten/status/432602179526860800
4 retweets (most of whom saw the original) and 1 favorite.

And mine's still up since it wasn't an actual RT, but rather a copy/paste.

Ask him a question in the comments of your tweet and see if he responds? Maybe he'll ask you to take it down and tell you why?

Then there we go. :)

Back up to 99% chance of no release this month.

However unlikely a surprise release might be, I don't really think the video coming out effects it. I mean, the video was coming either way.

Would make more sense to drop the album in conjunction with the Fallon appearance next week anyway.

Alright then, let's say 97%. I do think that the video release date being the 11th affects chances of a negative release slightly negatively versus if we didn't know that, because U2's slightly-coy announcement about "Invisible becoming visible" would fit a surprise release of an album called Invisible on a Tuesday, as announced by the now-deleted tweet of questionable legitimacy. My 95% number took into account the nice connection between U2's semi-coyness on the video announcement and the deleted tweet.

Agreed - still think it's 99% not happening, but this news didn't change that at all.

Anyone else really like how they are spacing things out - it all seems very planned and deliberate, from Ordinary Love onward.

17 October - Ordinary Love clip form the trailer emerges on U2.com
30 October - Ordinary Love vinyl announced
21 November - Ordinary Love video released
2 December - Ordinary Love digital download
14 December - Ordinary Love Epworth version
29 December - Ordinary Love Alternate video
12 January - Invisible announced - no more news
23 January - Details of RED, BoA, Invisible commercial released
2 February - Invisible released
11 February - Invisible video released
17 February - Jimmy Fallon appearance

Since Ordinary Love was released, there has been substantial news every 1-2 weeks.

Now, I'm not saying that there will be a surprise release soon, but there is a huge amount of effort going into this little period for it to amount to nothing. Has to be something bigger cooking...
