Is it common practice to charge for a secret show?

Pretty sure the stones would charge for spots in line for a chance to buy tickets, if they could. Which could be done, so I just assume they're doing it.

This place is a block away from my house.

Apparently there were like 1000 people in line.

Fuck the Stones.

They ended up doing a lottery so the people who got there before they announced the show didn't get tickets.

How much are tickets? Cheaper than a typical Stones show?

$20 cash which is generally what I see around here for secret shows.

In LA they usually do. The Foos show and the Arcade Fire show were $20 a couple of years back. If they are free they are usually sponsored by someone, like the Fitz show I went to earlier this year sponsored by Coke Zero.

I just ranted about the Stones on Facebook, and someone told me I was mad because I couldn't get tickets, and then concluded with "And you like U2".

Not sure what the fuck that has to do with anything.

Laz, for whatever it's worth, I think you're spot on about Pop being a coherent narrative about trying to fill a spiritual void through material hedonism. Really the ramshackle/unfinished feel of some of the songs complements that theme perfectly, as though the sheen on top is not enough to conceal the unraveling underneath.

Shuttlecock Girl is one of the most insufferable idiots on this forum.

I disagree with Nick66 on a lot of things, but he doesn't appear to be coming from a completely irrational, illogical place with every post he makes.

Its astounded me in recent years that Bon Jovi was the worst offender of this (until now at least, The $tone$ have a $2,000.00 package that exceeds BJ's $1,875.00 package, and the Stones includes like dinner, a program and a laminate whereas Jovi's lets you take your stupid chair home and I believe had dinner plus an open bar, so you get more for your money with Bon Jovi than the Stones), not astounded so much that he'd soak fans for that much, but shocked anyone would pay nearly 2K to see Bon Jovi. I could maybe understand it to sit front row for a Led Zep reunion but Bon Jovi?? Mind boggling.

Almost everyone is doing this stuff now, at least with many you get to meet the band (I'm going to Motley Crue in May at Mohegan, and they had a meet and greet package for $999.00, two things amused me about it, 1 that they didn't go that extra dollar for $1,000 so some would find it reaonably priced and 2 that you got to meet Sixx, Mars and Neil only, Tommy Lee won't even meet the fans who fork over a buck short of a grand).

I am thankful for the Bruces and Pearl Jams of this world who don't partake in this.

It's funny y'all bring up this secret Stones gig, because New Build, a band including Hot Chip members Al Doyle and Felix Martin that I pimped last year to no avail, got cancelled because of it. They've been tweeting about it for hours. Great reading.

At least U2 hasn't reached this level of obnoxiousness. And the RED section stuff all went to charity, I'm assuming.

Yeah the Red Zone auction seats benefited charity, probably not all of the ticket cost, but some portion. And they weren't that bad, I did Red Zone at both Foxboro shows, if I recall it was I think $125 one night and $150 the other, or somewhwere close to that, not outrageous, best option outside of GA and no need to camp out, showed up shortly before show time and got on the outside rail on the side. Nothing greedy about that in my book.

I tend to gripe about how their tickets are still on the high end of what I'm willing to spend. But I've still had excellent seats for Springsteen on more than one occasion now for the price of the cheapest stones tickets. Springsteen's camp also gets extra points with me for the way the devils & dust tickets were handled, the paperless 2 ticket limit and whatnot.

The VIP stuff takes it to a new level of expense that I seriously can't justify even if I have the money. I know there was some manner of package for the last Who tour, people on the boards were saying they felt it was worth it to see the soundcheck, but they ran out of food and were restricted to two beers or something, and for $750 or whatever it was, I absolutely cannot see how people can view it as anything other than a massively disgusting cash grab.

And I really don't get how in 2013 there are people who want to see Bon Jovi at all, never mind for that much money and a ridiculous folding chair.

I'm at the bar watching the UFC fights and Lawrence fucking Fishburne (and Taye Diggs) are sitting behind me

Haha, that article was from 2010, I just noticed that. Someone on the depeche mode boards linked it in their thread there about how getting tickets, for what I assumed was the current tour, sucked.

Still, same goes for 2010. Fucking insane.

Should I get Lawrence Fishburne to take a picture of Taye diggs and me with my phone?
