I was gonna wait till Mofo saw it, but yes I am. I own and like London Calling. Train in Vain is so great.

Good. You almost got me.

If it wasn't for lover's rock, that album would be perfect.

So anyway, I've still only listened to two depeche mode albums, and I'm sure they were slightly odd choices, but I'll get around to the rest after I feel like moving on from Songs of Faith and Devotion for more than an album or two. Kind of can't stop listening to it (and I realize when it came out, and how that also sort of negates all that other stuff I just rambled on about. But we're still talking about a band that I've always written off as an 80s synth pop band best to be avoided). The bluesy riff of "I feel you" grew on me, "walking in my shoes" is just fucking awesome, the gospel feel of "condemnation" is great, the haunting feel of "judas", and even if I never listened to anything else from that band is be glad I un-wrote them off for long enough to finally give it a shot.

If you liked Faith & Devotion, you really should hear Ultra as well. It carries that sludgy electro sound over, but mires it in even more layers and styles. Also, in relation to Speak & Spell, have you heard anything from Gary Numan? For some reason I find The Pleasure Principle to be a cousin of those early DM albums.

Continuing on with our Synchronicity discussion from the other day, I "acquired" the boxed set and was busy separating the songs into their own album entries, and the Wiki page for this album shocked me with a bit of information:

Murder By Numbers is not on the album proper.

For some reason, it was tacked onto the CD and cassette versions, but the original vinyl release ended with Tea In The Sahara.

Now I love Murder By Numbers, but I feel for authenticity's sake I should keep it with the other b-sides on the Message In A Box collection, and keep Synchronicity pure.

Any thoughts?

Fast Cars is NOT officially a HTDAAB track.

I listened to it on the back of strong reviews. The singer has a very unique voice, he's somehow managed to work the Aussie accent into his singing style. It's a bit off-putting, and the album is probably a little too heavy for my tastes, but I enjoyed it and I'll be coming back to it.

There are people that don't love London Calling?

I wonder if Elvis fans are pissed that they ripped off the album cover.

I'll have to go with ultra next then. I haven't cancelled my spotify subscription yet.

I'm pretty sure I heard a Gary Numan song once, if you or someone put it on a DI list. But otherwise, I have not.

Fuck. Red Hill Mining Town's video has completely destroyed that song for me. I thought I would get over it, but nearly 6 years on, I haven't. I used to adore that song, but I can't hear those lyrics anymore without picturing Bono's embarrassing overacting. I can't hear the percussion without picturing Larry hitting a steel pole for some reason. The bass line is still Adam jizzing canaries. Edge probably does something stupid to replace his awesome guitar line, but I don't remember now.

This has likely happened to me with other songs, but never this egregiously.

I had no idea you were a fan! I was in a corporate suite above the pits for the Aussie GP. Was awesome, we could lean over and watch them do pit stops. Who you tipping for the championship?
I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan. I watch 5-6 races a year live (when I realize I have nothing to do on a Sunday afternoon) and for the rest I just follow who wins each race. I haven't seen a race live yet. Would love to go to Spa Francorchamps one day but tickets are expensive. What you had sounds great. I'm jealous.

Really don't know who will win. I'm rooting for Hamilton. His car seems to be doing better than expected and I like his aggressive racing style. The Pirelli tires have made this sport much more interesting than it was say five years ago.

Good, because it wasn't that good of a song to begin with.

oh snap

I'm much the same. Spa is a great track, always produces a good race. If I had a dollar for every time I raced it on F1GP on the N64...

Truth. It was boring as fuck in the Schumacher era. 2003 it got interesting again. I think Vettel wins but hopefully anyone but him.

* SPOILER *

The Synchronicity remaster includes it. I think the band considers it part of the album now.

The Pleasure Principle is fantastic.

Someone must have put "films" from that album on a DI, cos otherwise I can't explain how else it ended up on my iPod.
