Kasabian singer hated touring with U2

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

i don't think it'll do any damage or good. i think the only people who will care will be, well, u2 fans.

also, just to add... it would probably suck big time to be an opening act on stadium tours when the majority of the people there have no idea who you are, so i can see where the guy's coming from.

An 80K crowd is an offer that no developing band can really refuse, but yeah, for most U2 support acts, I would think they would certainly count among your less awesome gigs.

Kasabian is an awesome band... So this kinda blew it for me.

I DO agree (I saw all opening gigs Kasabian did) that the crowds at U2 shows don't know Kasabian at all!
So they just stood and watch didn't move..
They where just dumbly staring. I was pretty much the only one freaking out :giggle: Because I love them!
And next to that the sound sucked at their first gig, so that doesn't improve anything , you couldn't make out anything
they where playing.

So I do think mr Meighan is right on some account.
He has a pretty big ego , but he's a cool dude, he is nice for his fans
I met him after one of the gigs in an Irish pub.

Its sad they had such a bad experience, and sad that so little people know Kasabian.
On the other hand, at least they don't make mainstream shit,
so I guess its better for them to have a slow growing fan base.

i used to like Kasabian. their debut album was spectacular. but everything else became so predictable. so yeah, i probably would have stood their like a cardboard cutout as well wishing that U2 had landed about 50 other bands as the opening gig.

"I hate supporting bands, we're not a support band. So that's never gonna happen again."

ah famous last words.... so what happens when the sales eventually dry up and they will...

My first stadia date was Edinburgh in 1987; Love & Money, Runrig, The Mission and The Pogues, we had a blast and all the acts got a great reception... well then these drunk hippies with cowboy hats wandered on and spoiled everything by singing an Eddie Cochran song really shit...

[but we liked it]

Cardboard cut outs....pffffff....

I betcha he didn't hate touring with them when he was collecting a big fat pay cheque.

i love Kasabian... can't be fun being a support band playing for fans who aren't really there to see you, and who really just want you to hurry the fuck up and get off stage lol! especially when you've already got your own fanbase and are used to people buying tickets to come and see you!

Some of these bands lose the reality of the situation. They have a great opportunity to win over a crowd and sale their music, but they bitch about it

Yes, its hard to open up for the likes of U2 but have fun with it. Play a few songs, tell everyone who you are, thank U2, and tell the crowd they are awesome. I bet Kasabian will never play stadium show again and this is how they treat a once in a lifetime experience.

I should have waved at The Fray drummer when he smiled at me.

It's not an easy job, some of us would rather see U2's crew (Dallas:cute:) onstage than the opening act.

They'll almost certainly never headline their own stadium tour, but they play in front of stadium sized crowds (there to see them) all the time.

Fixed that for you , and agree, they could have done a lot better,
I love their music but just bashing U2's crowd like that in public is not
really a good solution for his little epiphany.
I guess their owning up to their "The new Oasis" when you look at their cockyness.

Luckily, I can separate someone's music from their personality or at least from how they come across personally. I have always liked Kasabian's music, but seeing them live at the U2 shows was a huge disappointment. I liked some of the stuff they played but as a band, and the singer in particular, seemed extremely arrogant to me and I kind of felt him really disliking the crowd. Interpol, on the other hand, was just plain boring. And I still like to listen to both bands' albums.

I guess U2 won't ever ask Kasabian again to tour with them  I think it was Edge's idea. He once said that they were one of his favourite bands.

How dare they say bad things about the kind of fans who sit down and read during opening acts!

Ya, because they totally knew how lame the fans would be when they signed up. They should be grateful for the experience and keep everything to themselves!

I didn't see Kasabian open for U2 so I can't state any opinion on them personally. But I do know of the bands I did see open, the ones that got the best reaction and seemed to win over the crowd and have a great time were the ones where the band and mainly the singers had stage presence and made that connection with the crowd. I agree though the statement just seems bitchy. I'm sure they enjoyed the cases of Guinness and other expensive booze U2 gave them while touring with them.
