True that the quality of the WOWY performances was ranging from "not very good" to "absolutely atrocious" this current tour, and I'm not a particular fan of that song, it has been played to death, literally. Still I understand why U2 still include the song in their set. 9 out of 10 people you'd ask - outside us nutty hardcore fans of course - would name WOWY as their favourite song. Strangely, it still brings some atmosphre into the show. But yes, I'd also prefer an encore with Hold me, UV and MOS and/or Bad

true. It is just a bit sad that it sounds so poor these days. if they would still be able to belt out a fantastic version like they used to do a long time ago that song has every right to be in the set. I would never drop a JT WOWY of the set. Now it just feels like a filler and the song is worth much more than that and that is a shame

Bono lied!!!!

Agreed. I doubt they'll drop WOWY but I think that transition you mentioned works quite well.

I'm still wondering if they're really going to start with BD. The omission of NLOTH songs is really strange.

I can see opening with BD for a couple of reasons:

1. Given the comments that some have made about crowds not being enthusiastic until BD showed up, putting it first makes the concert start off with a bang, at least in terms of crowd reaction.

2. it's something they havent' done in 20 years (opening with a song not form the latest album) so it might "freshen" things up. Especially if they're really taking things away from the "promote NLOTH" as others have suggested (I'm not sure I subscribe to this idea just yet)

3. Before we confuse them with stuff they'll never have heard before, let's give them something they know and love.

I think you just convinced me. Wow! I'm really opening to suggestion this morning:up:

I thought the WOWY version that they did for the Gerry Ryan tribute was pretty decent

I don't understand why Bono insists on giving such a poor performance for that song. Maybe he likes to "sing" it that way? It's not working. The song needs a break and some major reworking.

Opening with BD would be fine for me, though a little bit coward of U2.

The new intro is interesting (Bono's vocals are reminiscent of the U2 of the early 80's)' but it definitely transitions into BD, making that rumor seem very realistic now, so I guess Soon was probably only being played on the PA. I was hoping they'd play it live, and that there was more to it that we hadn't heard yet.

this issue (one of many) i have with this is that nobody needed to wait for beautiful day to go off, every crowd i've heard on bootleg or been a part of are all over the title track.

it shits me in a big way that the band missed a huge opportunity with it, and they still seem to be ignoring the huge amount of missed potential the song has.

lead single and concert opener and u2 2009/2010 is another beast entirely. and i think they're going alright anyway.

Should be interesting to see how it all comes out.

I agree with Laura.

We all have ideas. We all have preferences. Either way, should be fun to see what they come up with.

AND - whatever they do Friday isn't set in stone. That doesn't mean that is the way it will be a week from Friday... much less once they go to South America/Mexico and so on.

WOWY JT/Lovetown and Zoo TV indoors were great. It became poor after that.

The Fly into MoS

I know it sounds a bit weird but that could actually work great.
think of the boston fly version with the gotta go's at the end and then imagine that organ coming in. you could also put the fly instead of holm me and switch between these 3 for the first 2 encore slots

would love that.

so:
HMTMKMKM or Fly
UV or Fly
MOS
Bad

well...I love the zooropa version from Rotterdam stadium may 1993 for instance . the zoomerang versions where a lot shorter and much less cool but on the other hand, I loved the midnight is when the day begins intro into it.

on topic: please drop the song U2 lol

OK yesterday was just a bad dream right? Tell me they just got done rehearsing UV like 5times already today. Like I said in yesterdays thread this Encore would flow pretty sweet:

HMTMKMKM
UV
WOWY (Just 'cuz I guess they think they have to play this every nite)
MOS

And a previous Post about U2 switching out a song that seemed to be embraced by the masses being switched out is kinda par for the course. Vertigo would be the perfect song to get axed in my opinion. I guess I'm still holding out hope UV will show up somewhere.

once macphisto started singing with or without you it became poor. musically it was still interesting until the end of zoo tv with the segue out of lemon, but after that musically it's been okay and vocally poor at best.

oh, for the record. I want to admit that I was wrong about MOS!!! It holds up live very well
still feel it shouldn' t be the last song of the night but the song before that though.

I'll smoke to that

I'm not even going to try to catch up on all the chatter I missed. I'm just going to sit here and gaze at the bass porn and wait for the Adam video that I just KNOW is Day 2 of the countdown to show up over on u2.com. :cute:

I like WOWY and I wish for it to remain. :reject: I liked WOWY all the way through the end of ZooTV, including Zooropa and Zoomerang, I didn't like it on PopMart, I liked it sometimes on Elevation, and I liked it occasionally on Vertigo. I like it generally now, though I wish Bono sang Shine Like Stars more often.

Bass porn = cool.

I have to say, Scott Jones (Joshua Tree tribute) has some straps that are similar, that he and the lovely Ms. Karen have made.

Sparkly is the new black.

But back on track... what would be a cool encore?

I think that it would be neat if...:

Mofo / Lemon / Discotheque for the first encore.

This followed by:
Hold Me Thrill Me, UV, MOS

Morning all..

:love:Beautiful version.

 Ground Control to Major Tom...

This new intro.. I don't know what it is, but it reminds me of Get On Your Boots a lot! The guitar and bass.. Can't make out what Bono is saying though. It has a very spacy feeling after 3 minutes in the clip! Pretty cool and very U2ish.

Reminded me of Boots as well and had moments of Vertigo...at least for me. I like the potential :D
