he also audibled out of a run play when he threw the interception in overtime vs. the Giants in '07. McCarthy was furious. let's just say that i have some inside info that there was a huge blowup between McCarthy and Favre after that game.

I particularly liked his "aw shucks" reaction after he threw that pick.

I'll try to quit bashing the guy, even if he earned it. I'm more than pleased with his successor.

honestly, i hope that one of their key players gets injured slipping on ice getting into a cab or something... just to show those pansy-asses that guys get hurt no matter what you do and that sitting their guys like that is just the softest piece of crap you could ever do.

Didn't this happen to the NY Rangers' Brian Leetch many years back?

Rodgers is a legend already in my eyes after how classy he handled himself last season. and now he's a Pro Bowl QB. he's earned every bit of respect he's starting to get.

I was so thrilled he made the NFC roster. Obviously he's having a great year, but I wasn't sure if he'd make it with more widely-recognized players like Romo and McNabb also having excellent seasons. (Romo or McNabb will end up going anyway, since Favre hasn't shown up to the Pro Bowl since 1997).

Rodgers is having a good season, and his future is bright. A legend though? He's got less than two seasons under his belt, and last year his team missed the playoffs. He will probably do well in the playoffs this year because Green Bay is peaking at the right time. If he beats Favre and Minnesota in the playoffs then you can call him a legend, i suppose. But to call him a legend now is a bit premature i think.

and it really doesn't do a whole lot of good to post "i have inside information" on a message board without backing it up. Im not saying i doubt you, but if i had a dime for everytime i read that somewhere i would be richer than i am right now. And let me tell you, im very very wealthy. See how that works?

:sexywink:

I recall a radio show commentator mentioning that Thompson and McCarthy had a serious discussion immediately after the game about whether Favre was still the guy that could take them to another championship, but this is actually the first I've heard of the McCarthy/Favre post-game blowup. On the other hand, it doesn't seem altogether impossible, especially given recent circumstances between Favre and Childress.

he's a legend in my eyes, lol.

my dad works with of all headphone equipment for the coaching staff, so he gets to see and hear a lot of things.

yeah, it was Chris Havel who first announced the rumor last year.

fair enough.

i wouldnt say im entirely suprised if a coach and player get into an arguement. Seen it before and im sure we'll see it again. If its foing to happen then i suppose it's better they do it behind closed doors than in front of tv cameras or on the sidelines within earshot of fans. But alas, we are only human, even coaches and players.

yep. from what i've heard, McCarthy was pretty disgusted with Favre all season, even though the Packers and Favre was doing well. but McCarthy put up with it since they were winning. now he has a QB who listens to him. i blame Mike Sherman for the way Favre has changed the last couple years. Sherman pretty much let Favre run the team and never held him accountable for his mistakes. many times during practice, you would see Sherman and Favre just chatting while everyone else was working hard. it was also during this era where Favre requested his own private locker room because he felt too old to really get to know the other teammates. Sherman, of course, obliged.

My dad and I were just saying the same thing the other day. I still remember the look on Sherman's face when Favre threw that miserable pass straight up in the air after "4th and 26."

See this is the kind of story you never hear about outside of Wisconsin, correct? I've never heard about anything like this, you would think ESPN would be all over this kind of story.

What im getting is a sense that Favre was a god in Green Bay and felt like he could do anything he wanted and get away with it. This could be partly because people there treated him like a god and worshipped him for so long. Of course most of them hate him now. Am i correct in my assumptions?

Exactly.

He was so well-loved that we continued to support him wholeheartedly, despite his playoff chokes, some poor seasons, and him playing out the possible retirement drama to some degree or another every off-season since 2002. Since his MVP ascension in the mid-90s, he's pretty much treated his fans like crap too (except for the convienient PR-type events). My family members and I have made several trips to Green Bay and can personally vouch for that. Still, his legacy was so rock solid, that we forgave him for all of this all too willingly.

yeah, i think many Packer fans overlooked the negatives. i mean, don't get me wrong, Favre is a great player despite his disadvantage (his human mother). but there were a lot of horrible throws Favre made that were usually passed off as "the receiver ran the wrong route" or "he didn't have enough protection".

i also think ESPN overlooked a lot of negatives. up until 2008, Favre was generally liked/respected by football fans around the world. it wasn't until the whole fiasco in summer of '08 where people started to finally look at things from a different angle.

So am i safe to assume if Favre was still playing at Green Bay, and the 2008 debacle never happened then we wouldn't be talking about horrible throws or private locker rooms? It would still be "the receiver ran the wrong route" or basically "Favre needs that extra locker room so he can go over the playbook without disruption" type stuff. The Favre / McCarthy "blowup" would just be "they needed to let off some steam, thats all".

Sorry guys, im not a Favre fan nor am i a Green Bay fan, just an outsider without inside information. It's intriguing all the stuff that comes out now, compared to before. Frankly i think both sides look foolish, its been a messy divorce. Favre, Green Bay, and some rabid Packer fans all look like the drama queens to me in this instance. Sorry for being blunt, please don't take me the wrong way. I guess im just tired of seeing all of the Favre crap in here. You guys are going to have to move on at some point and let him or it go. I know i might feel the same way if i were in your shoes, who knows. I'm sorry he treated you like crap and tried to hurt you.

Anyway Cheers to you both

lol. it's ok. i do think you have me a little misunderstood though. i've always been right down the middle with Favre, even when he was doing well. i always thought he was a tad overrated, and the reason why Green Bay embraced him so much is because between the years of 1968 and 1992, the Packers were horrible, the laughing stock of the league. plus, it's such a small town that the Packers feel like a high school team here. you'd have to live here to truly understand. the Packers run this city, the city's economy is totally dependent on the team. it's such a unique situation. i can understand why Packer fans may look like drama queens to an outsider, but honestly, Packer players are idolized here, and someone like Favre almost felt like a relative to many people.

back to the point though, i'm not really angry, i just find the story to be fascinating. it was the ultimate heel turn, and now that the spotlight is on, more and more stuff comes out. it's not really anyone being a drama queen, that's just how things work. look at any other news story (Tiger would be a great example).
