Rose Bowl Show to be filmed for DVD + Webcast

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
How well directed this thing is will be interesting. I would love for another U2 DVD to have the quality of filming that R&H had (I can say a lot of negative things about R&H, but it's an absolute visual delight to watch), but the best I think we can hope for is something as good as ZooTV Sydney or PopMart Mexico City (both of which are well-directed, but not quite as well as R&H, IMO).

In terms of just capturing the experience, I think U23D was the best, so having the same cinematographer direct it is a good sign.

I Am with Galeongirl in my frustration at the realisation of another US tour dvd. Europe has twice the population of the US, yet, it only has One official tour DVD release to chronicle their 30 odd years in existence. Considering they are european, i find it quite strange.
However, I dont agree with Gg's statement about all the cool stuff only happens in the US. Back when NLOTH was released, U2@ the BBC was a week long stint of appearing on TV, radio etc. Plus, there was the Sheffield Live broadcast....As well as other stuff that appeared on UK TV along the way.

Then why fall all over me for complaining if you'd do the same thing in my shoes?

I'm not trying to turn this in a who's better than who war, because nobody would ever win this. I'm just trying to make you understand how I feel about this.

I don't hate the US nor their citizens. I just wish you guys would be more cheerful, less reserved...

The point is that this is what we're getting, there is no option for a European DVD or broadcast in 2009, so why complain, either take part and enjoy it or don't. And you're making grand generalizations, I've been a part of very active and energetic audiences in the United States.

I wasn't ...... I did not mention you directly in my initial post.

It sure sounds like it...that is the way you came across. You might want to make that clear next time...:D:hug:

Oh good. Yes, we suck. Thanks!

All this bitching about the audience of dvd shows is pretty stupid.

Red Rocks = Wet, soggy half empty crowd + U2 on FIRE = great dvd
R&H = What crowd? + Unbelievable Performances = Great dvd
ZooTV = What Crowd? + Great staging and show = Great DVD (Could be better performance)
PopMart = What Crowd? + Fair Performance = Decent
Boston = Hamlish + shit crowd + shit performance = Shit
Slane = Great Crowd - Boston audience + Home town show for U2 = Great DVD
Chicago Vertigo - Early in the Tour + hamlish + shit crowd = Still decent vertigo dvd
U23D + GREAT CROWD + HUGE SCREEN + BAND ON FIRE = GREAT

So to me, the dvd's have little to nothing to do with the crowd and everything to do with HOW DECENT THE BAND IS. Maybe the ONE exception is U23D where the audience was MUCH more part of the show than a normal dvd...

I'd say the band wasn't on top form for Vertigo Chicago, it was a rather early show to film, and Bono was clearly sick, they should have scrapped it and filmed elsewhere when he got sick. But Boston? OK, there were some people sitting in the stands, but that's honestly the only thing I could point out as being 'wrong' with it, and that's not hometown bias, I enjoyed the performance a lot.

Last time I checked, Europe wasn't a country.

As far as I know, Galeongirl isn't from the UK.

I think U2 should film all their DVDs in San Francisco from now on.

Everyone always says how San Francisco is the most "European" US city, so that should satifsy all the critics.

And if the Canadians want to be on TV, they could just drive down, no big whoop.

All the pissing & moaning about how European fans are better and American crowds suck makes me even happier about the city. As far as I'm concerned U2 could shoot every DVD they ever release from now until they quit in the US and it wouldn't nearly make up for us not getting Lovetown.

or MacPhisto...we never got him either. Yet we don't bitch and complain about that constantly now do we?

People can cry all they want, big wet deal.

after this show on the 25th, U2 will go gangbusters with their setlist, and likely open it up more.

what i am expecting is the same setlist as the one from OK

For anyone wondering

atu2 Just got a reply from YouTube PR folks: The live U2 concert will NOT be available on their iPhone app or any mobile devices

On the basis that the Croke and COH gigs can be shared up until release, could the LA streams/video etc on Sunday be shared up until release?

It hasn't been decided yet, but I'd expect we won't allow those gigs moving forward either; whether or not anyone goes back and bans any old torrent involving those gigs is another story. If it turns out this Rose Bowl gig doesn't get released then it would be allowed, have they announced 100% that this will be an official release? Or is it just talk/rumour at this point?

The time difference does not work out well for the east coast, especially with work the next day, I am sure going to try to stay up for it though. I'm really excited for it!

Excellent, we haven't had a decent turf war since the Aust/NZ Vertigo shows got cancelled and all us Aussies were derided as selfish bastards more interested in our lost airfares than the welfare of a sick child. Oh those were the days....

(the above post is dripping in sarcasm, for the non-comprehending out there...) ;)

I wonder if this means u2torrents is going to allow the captures video stream to be uploaded, or just audience recordings of this show.

So in short, yes for now we are going to allow the recordings made by people...and when a commercial release is announced...we will then subsequently ban all recordings on this tracker which have to do with this release...
