No UK/Ireland dates whatsoever?

Disappointed.

Both UK and Ireland may get one each. They are playing more than 12 shows on this European leg. Everything has not been announced yet.

The other 8 shows might be:

Dublin
Manchester
Zurich
Rome
Madrid
Werchter
Oslo
Southern France

My predictions for the European leg

8/10- Frankfurt
8/12- Hannover
8/15- Horsens
8/16- Horsens
8/18- ? Maybe Brussels?
8/20- Helsinki
8/21- Helsinki
8/25- Moscow
8/26- Moscow
8/28- ?
8/30- Vienna
8/31- Vienna
9/3- Athens
9/6- Istanbul
9/8- Budapest (this specific date was rumored for Puskas Ferrance Stadium)

-possibly slide down to the rumored Israel gig(s) in this timeframe?-

9/15- Munich
9/18- Paris
9/19- Paris

Slide in Switzerland, Italy, maybe Holland somewhere in here, as well as that other Spanish city, most likely Madrid.

9/29- Seville
10/2- Coimbra, Portugal
10/3- Coimbra, Portugal

I honestly do not think UK or Ireland will be included in this tour. While I think they could do more shows in both, demand was pretty exhausted for the 2009 shows.

I also think there are too many German shows.

No chance of Manchester - no available stadiums at that time of year (and the City of Manchester is off-limts to all gigs since they were taken over). I cannot see them skipping London, it remains a major and lucrative market and they could all but guarantee selling out at least 1 night there, probably 2 if it were the only UK venue. Come September there are basically only 2 venues available for use - Wembley & Cardiff - all the other big stadiums have resident football teams.

Wouldn't be surprised if somewhere like Edinburgh got visited this time, long time since they have played Scotland outside Glasgow.

What about:

Islamabad, Pakistan
Kabul, Afghanistan
Baghdad, Iraq
Tehran, Iran

U2 sucks!

Seriously, there are so many locations they haven't visited yet where people have tons of money to throw at them:

Dubai, UAE
New Delhi/Mumbai, India
Johannesburg/Cape Town, South Africa
Hong Kong, China
Singapore

Why repeat US and Europe when you can cover more of the planet and reach out to more fans? I don't get it.

Brussels was confirmed by u2.com this morning. No exact date yet.

There won't be an irish date I guess. Band is not into it after all those protests at Croke Park.

They will prob add shows in Italy and Netherlands, not sure about UK. Then Hungary, Zurich and Prague .

Only suggest Manchester to mean the middle of England. Easy for people from the south, Scotland and Wales to get to as well. But, I'm starting to think they may not be returning to the UK or Ireland. Its true that demand in the UK seemed to be exhausted with the 5 shows.

Maybe they will play a smaller show in Cork. They have not been there since 1993.

They played Johannesburg/Cape Town, South Africa on POPMART.

I'm not sure I understand this reasoning. Don't most of the other European stadiums on Leg 4 have football/soccer teams too? Why would this prevent U2 from playing in the UK but not in Germany or Russia?

They played in both Johannesburg and Cape Town in 1998. I doubt they'd play in Dubai, or anywhere else in the Middle East outside of Israel, because of the fact that their music may or may not be even legal in parts of the Middle East. Dubai, while having lots of rich people and being relatively free (I think) for American expats, still imposes reasonably strong Islamic Law on the majority of its population, and I'm not sure how a lot of U2's politics would go over there. I'm already a little concerned about them being "overly-political" in Moscow. The problem with places like Hong Kong, New Delhi, and Singapore is what, while they could probably sell shows out, it is really expensive to transport The Claw to/from there, and McG won't want to do that if they are barging the claw in and then barging it out a week later, without investing more than two shows anywhere close to that region.

Ok this thread has more info.

http://community.u2.com/topic/11865

A mod said we could use our codes if we didnt use them already, but only within your subscription period, so it sounds like if your subscription expires before the tickets go on sale you wont be able to use the code and you'll have to renew.

There are updated FAQ on U2.com. It's not perfectly, clear but my impression is that a complete and partial unused code can still be used for any upcoming presale and that you will only be sent a new code if you resubscribe in which case you can use the old one and the new one.

So #2 in this list from the previous thread isn't accurate?

From what I read on U2.com (in the FAQs for the tour) if I understand it right

1) Unused pre-sale codes will still be valid
2) New pre-sale codes will also be issued to current subscribers
3) New subscribers (i.e. those who only sign-up to U2.com today (after the new tour dates announcement) will fall under a new category for the presale. Previously Boots subscribers were the last in line - now Boots subscribers can buy tickets on the last day of pre-sale date in the morning whilst the newest category of subscribers (called Magnificent) will have to wait until the pm.
4) Certainly for the forthcoming North American shows people with unused presale codes can buy the usual four tickets four/different shows with the old presale code and another 4/4 with the new code. Not sure about Europe though.

I'm not sure I understand this reasoning. Don't most of the other European stadiums on Leg 4 have football/soccer teams too? Why would this prevent U2 from playing in the UK but not in Germany or Russia?

The German dates are before the start of the season there, Munich has no team that plays there. For Russia there are 2 teams that play there so one would be at home the weekend either side of it - not sure if their season is in progress at that time or on a break. Can they put up and take down the stage in that short a space of time? I believe the stadium has an artificial pitch so that might open up a window of opportunity.

I stand to be corrected on the following -

Sevilla has no team playing there, both clubs there play in their own grounds. Panathanaikos will be in their own stadium by 2010 so no team in Athens Stadium. The Ataturk has no team that plays there, nor does the Stade de France or the Ernst Happel.

Certainly in the UK no Premier League chairman would allow a gig after the season has started, I can't even think of any gig that has been staged in a UK footy ground during a season.

So #2 in this list from the previous thread isn't accurate?

No clue. That's why I made a new thread and didnt include any of the info. As usual, we will probably hear different things until its actually crunch time.

Gotta love u2.com and their clarity.

If we have to resubscribe early for another code, I'm going to be pissed. I've already ranted in another thread about it. Blatant cash grab - and this is coming from someone who almost always defends U2 against those sorts of accusations.

A second show for Vienna is rumoured for 29 August. :hyper:

And there will be more dates added. I so hope for another Italian date. And maybe Switzerland, too.

What website do you think will sell the presale tickets for Vienna? I can't find a listing for Austria on either Ticketmaster or Live Nation..... And since I don't speak a lick of German, I need to check out the website ahead of time if I want any hope of navigating it come presale!

Spot on. Any UK dates will be end July/v.early august, presuming they go for 'new markets' The only cities not played in are basically Prem footie grounds

I hope they let us know soon if we need to re-new to get another pre-sale code. I have two left from the 1st, but I'm going to more than two shows next summer. And I think I'm actually going to have people willing to go with me. So if I have to re-new I hope they let us know within the next few weeks.
