I think Pride is a perfectly good song, but since it's been overplayed and with poor performances, it has sort of ruined my enjoyment of the studio version. MLK is my least favorite one after Pride.

I have this huge mental disconnect between studio Pride and live Pride, which I think is fortunate. They barely even seem like the same song, you know?

I've no real problem with MLK, it's just ... not a song. It's an intro or outro rejoicing in the status of a song.

what shampoo? i just go with pantene.

Umm...not sure  but I let the guy at the hair place go ahead and recommend me something cause my hair is a disaster, and he was good about not choosing something too expensive, so I'm trusting him on it.

I think the books benefit from the access he had. The fact that he relies mostly on oral accounts makes some of the claims a bit weaker. I like that Woodward does not seem ideologically biased on one way or another, which tend to be the case on most analyses of Bush.

Sounds like it might be worth a read then. Like Vazza, it's just a matter of finding the time. And this year, I think I am about to get snowed under by a mass of works on Kiwi and infrastructural history. Not that I'm complaining!

That sounds like you'll be digging the libraries for some rarities there, won't you?

Yep, and I may find myself spending my Easter or winter break digging through the National Archives in Wellington. Melbourne University fortunately contains some of the parliamentary debates from New Zealand, but for the time period I'm studying, it's an incomplete run and there is stuff from 1870 that I am going to sorely need. I've written about it before on the basis of newspaper reports that have printed core extracts of notable speeches, but that may not be enough this time around.

never been to oakland, just sf. i don't see a terrible appeal there....

wait rbf where are you actually if not berkeley?

Salt Lake City, Utah. Home of Mormons, the 2002 Olympic scandal, and not much else.

Okay, now they're saying this is going to be the worst snowstorm in two decades?

Uh. Four years ago we had a blizzard that dumped 14 inches on us.

:uhoh:

Sounds like fun.

In light of this week's forecast here, I don't think I'm being sarcastic either.

Actual archival research must be a good learning tool (I've never done it myself). And I'm glad you live in a place with organized archives. This would be utterly impossible here.

Will you also need colonial archives from London (I assume these exist)?

eeew, utah

I know. The problem of going to Oakland is I'd have to go with someone who loves Green Day as much as I do and knows their pre-Dookie career, otherwise, all my nerdy little things in the East Bay aren't going to be much fun.

What about travelling alone?

can anyone explain why this idiot gave the product 4 stars out of 5??

I just learned about the effects of Pantene today, after a couple weeks of significant hair loss. Showering would leave enormous clumps of hair in the bottom, just running my fingers through my hair I'd get a handful of unexplainable healthy hair. Tonight my husband asked how long I've been using Pantene and tells me the association with hair loss. I thought he was pulling my leg, until I got home and started doing my own research. I see that you and I have lived the same nightmare. I am sorry. I have tossed all the bottles and have traded them for something more healthy for my hair and will hope for the best for both of us. Good luck and thanks for sharing your story.

I've done a little bit of archival research, it's a bit tedious but there's quite a thrill when you find something crucial. Both Melbourne and Wellington have pretty good archives. What is frustrating for me with regards to New Zealand history is that a huge chunk of the Hawkes Bay region's archives were destroyed by fire after the 1931 Napier earthquake. Luckily, I don't think I'll need to do too much work in the region, and the most important stuff would've been kept in Wellington.

Hopefully won't need archives from London at this stage. No bloody idea how I'd afford to go there to access them anyway. But during PhD, I imagine the possibility will come up.
