Nope. My Best Was Never Good Enough from the Joad album was first.

Every cloud has a silver lining, every dog has his day
She said, "Now don't say nothin'
if you don't have something nice to say."
The tough, now they get going, when the going gets tough
But for you my best was never good enough

"Now don't try for a home run, baby
If you can get the job done with a hit"
Remember, "A quitter never wins and a winner never quits"
"The sun don't shine on a sleepin' dog's ass"
And all the rest of that stuff
But for you my best was never good enough

"If God gives you nothin' but lemons, then you make some lemonade"
"The early bird catches the fuckin' worm,
Rome wasn't built in a day"

"Now life's like a box of chocolates,
You never know what you're going to get"
"Stupid is as stupid does and all the rest of that shit"

Come'on pretty baby, call my bluff
'Cause for you my best was never good enough

I pointed that out to someone the other night too, and it's funny because, in another song, doesn't he say "freaking"? Good lord, better to drop the f bomb twice.

I need to give Tom Joad another spin sometime soon. I think I've probably only listened to it once all the way through. It's the Bruce album that I'm least familiar with, along with Human Touch and Lucky Town.

I like the idea/theme of Tom Joad, and I love the mood of it, but save for a small handful of tracks, I don't actually like it all that much.

Ah, "Queen of the Supermarket" lyrics are so beautiful :heart:

And I'm listening to "Outlaw Pete" for the 10th and I'm still getting goose bumps when he sings "I'm outlaw Pete... I'm outlaw Pete...can you hear me?"

Life Itself-->Kingdom of Days-->Last Carnival ~ I really like the flow of those three together.
Outlaw Pete into Lucky Day isn't bad either.

I was being slightly provocative when I made the comment, but I believe it to be true.

Neil made a great point that trumped the age thing entirely--it should never be a barrier to greatness of any kind. Bruce & Peter Seeger yesterday, for example.

I don't like when people use age to explain things away...I mean, it is a factor in that as you grow older, presumably your life changes, you might start a family, drop old habits, grow new concerns, and that will impact your songwriting, etc......but, it should not be used as an excuse, or so I think.

I agree completely. I think I got going by the previous comment: "...Another aging self righteous Obama butt sniffer."

Numerical age aside, I do find it compelling how artists like Springsteen, who have such career longevity, keep pushing out relevant, inspiring stuff. Factor in Neil Young and Bob Dylan (albeit, slightly more 'experienced' examples), and you have the trappings of a pretty interesting research paper...or at least interesting to me.

Backstreets.com: Tour/Ticket Info

And I got a 'pre-presale' alert email for the Germany dates this morning. But I think the official presale starts on Monday, so I'll wait.

Hi Anna

Got it this morning as well!

Vienna is July 5, so I'll try to score tickets for that date. I've also thought about going to Munich but I think it will be too much. I have to save some money and energy for U2.

GREAT news, btw, that Bruce is coming back. He hasn't been in our country for quite some time.

Yeah that's awesome for you !
I'm thinking about going to both german dates, but I dunno how to get from Frankfurt to Munich , cause it's just a day between the gigs!
But I think I'll go to Munich cause I have some friends there...and Bruce (+ESB) will also be at the Pink Pop festival in Landgraaf on May 30. That's very close to where I live and that would be a great alternative.
You should really think about coming to Munich ...:sexywink:

He's the guest DJ on Sirius E Street channel right now-they are replaying it on later dates and the second edition is on other dates. The dates are on his web site.
