About South America, I can only tell for Brasil, but apparently the crisis isn't affecting the show business very much. Maroon 5, Coldplay and Rolling Stones are in the line for 2016, as well the festivals like lollapalozza. I don't see U2 in first semester because of the others concerts, but some rumours are pointing to a Sep/Oct/Nov date.

Unless the situation becomes unsustainable, I don't see U2 not doing SA concerts.

also, this week Lollapalooza COLOMBIA was announced , that's the 4th Lollapalooza in Southamerica

Coldplay, the Stones, AC/DC, maybe The Who, they're all heading down here next year. Later this year in between 35 days we'll have QUEEN, MUSE and PEARL JAM here in Chile.

The tipping point is Argentina. They're having it rough. But maybe if they add other countries to the tour, as I'm predicting Colombia and Peru to join Arg, Bra and Chile, we may have luck.

I'm aiming for October 2016, at the very least early 2017, our Summer. (but after September is hot here anyway)

I respectfully disagree. Tremendous demand exists for U2's live product in Europe. Further, Europe lacks the extensive network of large arenas in the 18K-20K seat range like those found in North America. That means they can profitably do stadiums in Europe, and perhaps more significantly, need to do stadiums there. Seasonal conditions dictate that this run must take place in the summer of 2016.

There are plenty of arenas in Europe. It can hold the demand with multiple nights just fine.

No Australian dates until 2017. Indoor again next year

Hmm, that would be pretty nice actually, giving me a good year and a half to save up for my trip across the world. :D

Though seriously, if they do another ticket sale round during the holiday season, I'm gonna cry. That was really, really inconvenient. :crack:

I know very well the guy who created the Stereo Picnic music festival in Bogota and who has now partenered with Lollapalooza to take it to Colombia (His company's name is called T310 Productions). I asked him about this issue yesterday by text.

Basically he told me, whether U2 ends up going to South America 100% it depends on Brazil.

Chile, Colombia, Peru etc, are all nice for U2, but where they make their money every time they go is Argentina and Brazil. Argentina is a hot mess, with inflation running rampant, and a socialist government that limits US commerce in the country.

Ultimately he told me: the decision comes down to Brazil. The economy has contracted 4% since last time U2 played there (2011) and a crazy 7% since 2005 when Vertigo Tour headed south. Simple: If they can make the numbers work in Brazil, they go. If they can't: they don't.

Surprising data I learned: Pearl Jam is selling badly in Bogota. They are doing discounts and groupon to try and sell the thing.

Europe in May apparently to start

If Europe starts in May and Philadelphia is in June, that would make the Europe leg a max of six weeks ... Sounds more like those will be "cleanup" legs for SOI with no SOE, If SOE was going to be a major part then they would do more dates, I would think. Plus then what would they do from August-ish 2016 until Australia in 2017 - get SOE released *then*, perhaps? ;)

In 1992-93, they had a break from November - May in the tour... we got Zooropa.

In 2009-10 they had a break fro November - May in the tour... we got Bono's back surgery, and the US leg being postponed to 2011, and a few half baked songs that evolved into much better songs on SOI, 4 years later.

So it could go either way...

I hope they figure it out relatively soon. I've got non-U2 and maybe U2 vacation plans to figure out for 2016. ;)

Philly in June? That's going to be tough with the Flyers and Sixers in the playoffs..... Oh wait, that's not going to happen. Never mind.

If Europe starts in May, Philly would have to be in late June - Basketball would be over anyway and chances for the final of the Stanley Cup are even slimmer. ;)

All things considered, I'd rather be in Philadelphia.

This band is made of of guys in their mid-50s, some of whom have become a bit creaky in recent years. "Multiple nights" is not necessarily the best answer.

The US has ~50 arenas with 18K+ capacity, and Canada adds probably 8-10 more. Europe has only 17-18 arenas with that sort of capacity, and a few of those are located in politically or economically questionable areas.

A massive amount of demand for U2 exists in Europe. The only way for them to meet that demand and profit accordingly is to play stadiums there next summer.

Remember things can change. He definitely said Aussie dates 2017, we're pretty sure he said indoors and the Europe start in May comes 2nd hand from another fan that sat by him on the flight. One thing Joe was sure of was the divorcing of his wife over the amount of shopping she had done
