Slow and soulful, Sia?s Some People Have Real Problems is an album set in the clouds. Sia?s voice is needy and gentle. It is longing and beautiful. Along with the soothing beat of the drums and piano, you are taken somewhere magical. Vocals soar and a new love begins. This album is meant to calm one?s world. Some People Have Real Problems isn?t impressive or epic. It is just right. Modern female solo vocalists could only dream of making such a solid record. Every note is just right and the mood is something you will find yourself always going back to. This is a great outing of soul and musical experience. For lovers of either or simply female vocals, this album is for you.

Some People Have Real Problems begins with ?Little Black Sandals,? an intoxicating little tune that will have anyone singing along with the chorus. It is tracks with this sway and grace that make the record stand out. The next track is a gentle little piano-led dance called ?Lentil.? Sia provides a vocal knockout and lovers of the female voice will be blown away. ?Day Too Soon? follows as one of the album?s best tracks. The background music really starts to add depth to the album on this song.

The lullaby-like intro of ?You Have Been Loved? will capture the listener for good. Its dreamy, mysterious beginning leads into one of the most brilliant parts of the album. When it seems like a vocal explosion is coming, Sia restrains herself, holding true to the lullaby feel. When the vocal explosion does come, it is perfectly timed. This furthers the magical feel of the album. In my opinion, this is Sia?s best song on Some People Have Real Problems.

The album isn?t all soft and down-tempo songs. ?The Girl You Lost To Cocaine? is the hardest song on the album and really gets the listener into it. ?Academia? is a playful song that runs in all directions with its wild lyrics. The album then returns to the softer side of Sia with ?I Go To Sleep,? which feels like slow dancing with the clouds under the moonlight. The song evokes wondrous images when you close your eyes for this beauty.

?The Playground? is one of the strangest tracks on the album. Its odd beat is tied to absurd lyrics such as ?I don?t want to grow up/ Bring me all the toys you can find.? The oddities continue with ?Death By Chocolate.? Although the song is quite beautiful, I find it to be the weak spot on the album. It doesn?t impress and becomes tedious after a while. The album rights the ship with ?Soon We?ll Be Found.? With a slightly Latin feel, the song has a magnificent chorus to go along with its bright vocals.

?Electric Bird,? ?Beautiful Calm Driving,? and ?Lullaby? round out the album. ?Electric Bird? is festive and wild with horns in the middle of the song. My favorite part of the track is the short duet between the horns and the vocals. ?Beautiful Calm Driving? lives up to its title. The occasional strings in the song are truly stunning. These two songs are followed by the final track of the album called ?Lullaby.? This is a slow haunting piece that brings a world spinning out of control to rest. In the album?s most beautiful moment, there is only the listener with his eyes closed being sung to peace. There is also a hidden track at the end of the song that the album could live without.

This reviewer?s recommendation is to go get Sia?s Some People Have Real Problems in order to slow and soothe a mad world. I found parts of it did just that. The power and magic of music lives on in this album. The female voice is once again a calming presence. I would give this album four out of five stars. The overall sound and mood are stunning. There are a few weak spots, but so far this is a top choice, one of the year?s best.
