^Indeed compared to politics these days Breaking Bad is practically soothing.

i just blew through three episodes in a row. i can't believe how good it is. amazing TV.

also amazing? that Newt Gingrich might actually be the GOP nominee. Mitt was right about one thing: Gingrich is a bomb thrower, subtext being that he's absolutely unsuited to know the nuclear codes.

also, i came across this line and had to reprint it, because my new mission in life is to make Rick Perry look as stupid as possible, whenever possible:

Gingrich has had by far the most realistic chance of any non-Romney nominee, and has stayed at a sustainable level of interest for longer.

Which would make his fall from favor all the more dramatic (and satisfying, because holy shit, he is an asshole).

Agreed on all accounts. Except you really don't have to try very hard to make Rick Perry look stupid. He opens his mouth on his own.

Gingrich is a smart man, but i still don't see how he could be the GOP nominee. I mean i can see it happening, i just don't see how it could be this bad. Don't these people (republican party) realize that Women, Gays, & Poor people all vote? And some of them are Independents, which could swing either way (not the way it sounds )

Then again, stupid people vote as well, which is probably what they are counting on. Bring up the birth certificate issue with a well known real estate / reality tv mogul questioning its authenticity, have some of your rich corporate friends layoff a bunch of people, throw around that word "socialism" a whole bunch, and you've got the recipe for Newt/Apocalypse 2012.

How does everyone feel Mitt's "10,000 dollar bet" comment will affect his standings? I think it'll be blown completely out of proportion, and used in every attack against him, probably rather effectively. Which is sad, because it's really not that big of a deal.

To me its a non-issue. Though im sure the media will probably be all over it and/or take it out of context like the Obama "its above my paygrade" comment from 2008. Im sure they probably already are....though i haven't bothered to watch any faux newts. (<--see what i did there?)

Yeah, I pretty much agree. I do feel like it was an unnecessary comment though. Very unlike Mitt. He normally doesn't give the media any so-called gaffes to latch onto.

I think Mitt's net worth is estimated at 250 million. Chump change for him, and it's not as if people don't know he's loaded. Is it?

If it's some sort of gambling issue well he even abstains from coffee. When Mitt tries to be funny off the cuff it almost always seems weird, awkward, or dumb. That's just his personality.

Well, among the current group of GOP contenders, none of them are exactly funny. Other than Perry, who's just dumb. Cain was probably genuinely funny, but he obviously had his fingers in the cookie jar a few times too many. Santorum and Bachmann are scary. And of course so is Newt. Huntsman is probably a decent fellow but i have no idea why he's even in the race, nice guys finish last and i think he's only polling around 1% at best. I guess Ron Paul is funny, and he hits some points occasionally, but he's also a complete loon at times. I don't know....still holding out hope for Mitt....though Bill Maher did say once "anyone can be elected President in this stupid fkng country" or something like that. Which is scary...

i agree totally.

i'm sure Romney has made $10K bets before and he'll make them again, because he has the money, and by all accounts, he's an awfully good businessman who saved the Olympics. anyone who knows anything about Romney knows how rich he is, and anyone who knows anything about politics knows that "feeling your pain" is all art and artifice and only ever proved through the pursuit of substantive programs that might actually affect how the working classes and poor live, and Romney being a Republican isn't interested in any of that, because the GOP only cares about keeping taxes low on rich people.

also, i don't think n00t is smart. i think he's clever, and i think he's extraordinarily pretentious.

I don't know, I think regardless of whether I or anyone agrees with his views, it's hard to deny that he's an intelligent man. He IS quite pretentious, although that doesn't really bother me.

I essentially agree with what's been said. Wagering $100 may have been the better way to relate to you and I, but let's be honest: Romney is wealthy. Not only can he make that bet if he wants to, so can everyone else on that stage and on the Democrat stage 4 years ago. Politicians are wealthy.

On a similar note, I thought his response to the question on growing up poor or having to make his own personal ends meet was answered quite well. I was nervous on how he would respond, but he basically acknowledged that he grew up in a family where money wasn't a problem, but that his life experiences have made him able to empathize with those less fortunate.

Hey there is a country Solynda, it's near Pandora.

Hours after Saturday's presidential debate in Des Moines, Iowa, GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry continued his string of memorable campaign gaffes.

CNN Political Ticker reports that Perry campaigned in the Hawkeye State, stopping in Ames. He focused on energy, taking shots at the Obama administration's handling of government spending.

"No greater example of it than this administration sending millions of dollars into the solar industry, and we lost that money," Perry said. "I want to say it was over $500 million that went to the country Solynda."

Perry was on target with his loan estimate, as the Department Of Energy issued a $535 million guarantee back in 2009. The only problem with his remark: the funding went to an energy company named Solyndra.

The Texas governor's lineup of laughs has grown over the course of his 2012 campaign. Back in November, he made headlines with his "oops" moment at a GOP debate, failing to name three federal agencies that he would eliminate. In New Hampshire, Perry got the voting age wrong as well as the date of the 2012 election. Two days ago, Perry had a judicial fail in an interview with the Des Moines Register forgetting the name of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

Perry defended his gaffes in a sit-down with Fox News Sunday, telling viewers that voters "aren't looking for a robot."

hmmm, well, i admit, Newt can deliver a punch:

Quote:
Newt Gingrich brushed off Mitt Romney's charge that he should give back the $1.6 million that Freddie Mac paid him, speaking after a town hall in Londonderry N.H.

"I would just say that if Gov. Romney would like to give back all of the money he's earned from bankrupting companies and laying off employees over his years at Bain, that I would be glad to listen to him. I'll bet you $10, not $10,000, that he won't take the offer," Gingrich told reporters.

Newt uses Bain to slam Romney - POLITICO.com

substance aside, it's good for a snicker.
