I did a search for U2 DVD today and found a bunch of cool stuff. For example, there's the Irving Plaza show, ZooTV Washington, Chile Popmart and many more.

Some of them say that the show is multi-camera with stereo sound and some don't say anything except a tracklist.

Has anyone ever had any experiences with buying these DVDs from E-Bay?

I bought the Irving Plaza DVD on eBay. It's a fixed Camera from the back of the club. Good quality video, excellent quality sound.

I always ask the buyer before bidding, but sometimes you just have to take the chance.

The Irving Plaza DVD is now my most cherished video item. It's pure magic.

I'd rather chance a DVD than a VHS tape. At least you don't have as much risk of "copy fatigue".

Good luck.

I bought a Popmart Mexcio City VCD on EBay once, I was happy cause it plays in my DVD player, shipped from Thailand. Its usually kinda risky though.....try half.com and see what they have.

I bought something U2-ey on eBay once and totally got screwed. I actually wrote a story about it, and it will be posted in the Content/Zine section very soon. :tsk:

I bought the same Irving Plaza DVD that TT Prince bought, and I have no complaints. I also bought all the Propagandas I didn't have on Ebay too. In my 20 plus transaction I have only had trouble a couple of times. HelloAngel, I'm sorry to hear that you had trouble getting U2 stuff on Ebay.....:-(

Thanks sweetie.. it was truly a messed up situation. And it was an online U2 fan that I had met no less. :tsk: Needless to say, they're not around much anymore.

I've got both the Irving Plaza VCD and the DVD and I have to say that the DVD is not much better than the VCD (if at all).

Also, I doubt that guy has the multi-camera Irving Plaza show. I remember when there was talk about it, but the guy trying to sell it didn't get enough takers and so he vowed to never 'release' it. I haven't heard any differently (but someone is welcome to correct me).

Also, before purchasing one of these homemade DVDs, you might want to ask the person what type of media it is (DVD-R or DVD+R and others) and what type of format (PAL vs. NTSC) and then make sure whatever you are playing it in (DVD player or computer) will be able to play it. No sense in wasting your money on a PAL DVD when your standalone only plays NTSC, ya know?

I have purchased from Antoine http://www.u2liveinconcert.com/ and he's reliable and fairly quick turnaround, if you want to pay the $$$. I prefer to download MP3s and burn them onto a CD. Sure they don't have the "quality" sound of a "good" bootleg, but I'm getting cheaper in my old age.

HelloAngel, I am shocked (quite serious) that a U2 fan gipped you! Mustn't really be a U2 fan!!!

This guy says he's the a professional, multi-camera version of Irving Plaza.

I think I'll try him out. What's the worst that can happen? I lose the money and then my credit card number is used to purchase under-aged, Thai, porn on the net? I've had worse things happen to me than that.

DVD-R and DVD+R are the two main formats being used in computer DVD reader/writers. It's kinda like then video tapes first came out and you had Beta and VHS.

Macs and a bunch of PCs have DVD-R writers, but now a bunch of PCs are coming out with DVD+R writers. Some of the drives can read both DVD-R and DVD+R, but some can't (like my recently purchased iMac only reads DVD-Rs).

I *think*, but I'm not positive, that most standalone DVD players, if the read one format (say, DVD-R), then will read the other format (DVD+R). But, you have to look at the manual for your particular player.

I just brought this up cuz it would be awful to buy a DVD+R and plop it into your computer and find out you can't watch it!

Ok, so he just wrote me back saying the Irving was only 1 camera, but a proshoot.

So I don't think I'll be purchasing it.

Wolfwill, it is probably the same version I got. I don't know how pro-shot it is, but it's a very steady, still camera. A lot of Bono close-ups and such. There are some shots from near the stage, but then it goes right back to the wide angle shot from the back. It's a good copy and if it is anything like mine, the sound is actually very good.

I bought a couple of boots on there before I knew there were easier ways to get them. :uhoh:

I've also bought my Larry POP promo poster, a few old Rolling Stones, and some singles off of there.

Easier way...do tell...do tell...

Wolfy, sorry man I don't have a DVD burner, or I'd burn one for you for the cost of postage!! I did buy this DVD from a seller on Ebay who goes by the name of Penshot. He sells his DVDs for $20.00 and postage. Sorry!!

haha, me too. i remember i bought a boot mainly consisting of b-sides, and a couple solo tracks (like in a lifetime). then, a couple months later, the first greatest hits came out with b-sides! most of what was on the boot was on the b-sides disc!

oh well.

anyway, i really can't offer my personal experience because you don't buy from ebay but from individual people. i've never been screwed over, but that doesn't mean everyone has such luck (look at helloangel, for instance). the best thing i can recommend doing when choosing who to buy a boot from (if you do buy them from ebay), or anything off ebay for that matter, is to look at their feedback.

ebay has now tweaked their pages and they're more readable. it shows a percentage of good-to-bad feedback ratings. for example, i've had all good ratings and no bad, so mine is 100%. (plus i also have the number of ratings next to my name.) try to find someone who's got their percentage as close to 100% or at 100% as you can. you'll be less likely to be screwed. so many times, people just look at that huge number next to their name (showing they had like 2895 positive ratings) and bid, but if you don't look at their ratings, maybe they also had 796 negative ratings, and a ton of neutrals. so i go by the percentage.

if that didn't make any sense, it'll probably make more sense once you start looking at auction pages, so you can see people's ratings and percentages.

Reggie, can I find out more about your copy? Mine has the date and time in the bottom right corner starting about 10 seconds into it. Mine also has 14 chapters (no indexed on the songs, but actually indexed at about every 5.5 minutes). It also has the same flaws that the VCD has (a gap after New York and a sudden start into I Will Follow and then a few gaps during One).

Can you tell me a bit about yours? If yours is totally different, then it sounds like there are two different versions out there (something I think traders should know).

um, trading?

I did buy my first boot on eBay but after that it's been all trading. It was the best money I ever spent and it's gotten me very far in terms of trading. I was able to trade it a few times and in no time I had a nice size collection of live U2 stuff, that is still growing.

The only reason I even bought the bootleg was the seller had a few thousand comments in their feedback section and there was hardly any negative things to say, and if they were negative it wasn't about the quality of the item but about the response time to hear from the seller or shipping problems. This seller mainly sold live U2 CD's so I was comfortable with bidding after reading the feedback about their stuff.

I've had nothing but positive experiences on eBay with the people I've dealt with whether I was the buyer or seller. I was able to buy just about every issue of Propaganda and tons of other stuff. I got really burnt out as a seller and I don't think I'd go back to doing that. Too much work!
