do you still listen to radio?

well just a question to pose for you folks

but who still listens to commercial radio?

i mean its gotten to a point its gotten bland and dull that cds, and tapes are the only way to go

all that is on is just boybands (n-suck), girl singers (britney and co), and bland r and b acts (eg destiny's child)
and those bands that are being played are sellouts like creed, matchbox20

and...
to make it worse..

a song is played 6-7 times a day!

so...

who still listens to radio after all this?

I listen to NPR (National Public Radio for those that don't know), so I don't have to worry about getting sick of the same old songs on the music stations. Instead I get to get my earfull of national and worldly things like politics, culture and science! I am truly a pencilhead!

I never listen to the radio. The power went out like a year ago and it erased all my radio presets, so I've changed to CD's in my house, tapes (hopefully soon CD's) in my car- and I don't want it any other way.

i dont listen to the radio.. here in london, canada--people have no taste in music what so ever...they are very conservative....grrr

i cant even find a KMFDM cd at an HMV here!

and people arent into u2 very much... i think they prefer pop acts. i bought a u2 cd here, and the guy just looked at me like i was an alien or something...i said to myself : yeah kiddo--go enjoy your stupid blink 182!!!

theres nothing wrong about blink 182--just their fans think they are the best shit around.lol

also, here, people looooooooove club dance music. it's a very rich/preppy city, so there are lots of hootchie mamas walking around wearing blue eyeshadow, and puffy coats, and platform shoes

Haven't listen to the radio at all for quite a while. Don't think they have songs worth listening to at the moment plus I have my cd's, records and tapes and this makes me happy!

I listened to the radio a lot in high school. I guess it wasn't really that great then either. But I did discover quite a few of my favourite bands there. The thing is, they were mostly older bands who were releasing new music. I do listen to the radio sometimes now but not really very much. I get new music through recommendations and other means. It's hard for me to discover bands anymore, either new bands or old ones. Most of the CDs I buy seem to be U2 and Sting singles and suchlike that I spend too much money on!

Only the cbc (classical, commercial-free) once in awhile. Went through a stage a few years ago of listening to hard rock radio all the time, 'cause I found the new music coming up really interesting, but the chatter drives me bonkers! I know there's stuff i'm missing, new bands I might like to know about, but...my curiousity can't compete with the desire to hear Stuck or Mofo or All I want is You, or um, Dwight's Fast As You or Things Change. Yup, these are the unlikely twin pillars of my musical mansion, Dwight Yoakam and U2. Who needs radio?

I, too, gave up on commerical radio with the rise in popularity of M20 and Creed. Unfortunately, Creed started in the city where I live, and because this is a college town, they are inescapable. ugh. NPR is a truly wonderful thing - and it has been radio's saving grace during these *NSTINK years.

Well, it seems that there is a pattern... radio stations in Brazil suck as well. Besides all the buble gum pop, boy bands, (the worst thing, they have been copied here, we have our own clones), etc, there is also a plague around here, something called pagode, it?s a "new" kind of samba, the most annoying thing one can put up with. Also the local hip hop is everywhere on the radio. So...the answer is no, I don?t.

wow reading these posts made me appreciate Aunty ABC even more.There is a very high standard of journalism and reporting and a wonderful variety of music on the shows I listen tur regional ABC HQ is nearby and it is run by the nicest bunch of people.I think I'll let them know they are even more precious than I realised....and could she possibly chose another track from the album(Fiona has a "thing" for the "sweetest thing" variety girl, variety,pleeeeaaasee)

I listen to the radio every day? We have a cool station, FM96, which plays rock, no boy-bands, no brittney, no trashy copy-everyone-else rap. Our Lady Peace, Coldplay, Metallica, sometimes Blink 182 (even though they suck), Matthew Good Band, Big Wreck, AC/DC, well... Lets just say, rock, most kinds of rock, especially newer stuff... Its hard to explain... But I mean, theyre good, they play U2 a fair bit, any given day you can hear one or 2 U2 songs, which is good for a radio station... I dont nkow, I think they do a very good job cuz they keep a lot of the crap out there from getting airtime... admittedly they could improve, but I still like it.

The decent radio stations here in the Bay Area are segmented into a classic rock station, an alternative rock station, a new rock station (that will play for instance Dave Matthews, plus new stuff) and an eighties station. You'll hear some U2 here and there. My own preference is for a CCM (Christian Contempory Music) station.

I can't really deal with radio stations anymore, though I must say the ones in LA are much better than the ones in Miami. Sometimes however I do put up with them, and they're programming is not too bad for about an hour then it just starts repeating itself and off it goes.

Oh yeah and if you ever want to be tortured just get yourself a car whose stereo only has radio (no tapes or anything). Oh God somedays I just wanted to get out of the car and stand in the street till someone ran me over.

So its mp3 for me. I often listen to www.di.fm

If i do listen to the radio its either CHRW (the local university station) or CBC
