I recall that evening we stood outside and held our wine glasses up high, catching falling stars and watching our comfort spill onto our pristine laps. We kissed behind the trees, my body perched on your lap as berries stained our lips. Hollow kisses from a heavy heart complimented the moonlight. We disconnected and walked deeper into the darkness, the dewy grass chilling my bare feet no worse than the feeling of your fingertips over my spine.

Your kisses were like magic, but magic is simply clever tricks designed to entertain and dazzle the masses. I suppose I am more susceptible to deception than I ever thought possible, and the realization of that magnifies my vulnerability. Everything I would hide during the day always tumblied out promptly once night fell. The taunting moon was my spotlight, and you had controlled it.

When you said I was your doll, I should have know you meant that I was your rag doll, carried about and tossed around by you...a careless little child. Dress me up, take me out, leave me behind. My button eyes became detached, and you were too busy to sew them back on.

I shall never see again.
