Nothing major, just pain killers and antibiotics.

One of my jobs is in a Drs office(though I'm getting a new one in the fall), and they really dont seem to care, but I still find myself sneaking it behind their backs.

I cant afford it otherwise i'd just get a prescription, but I cant even afford aspirin, and for some reason that doesnt even work on the kind of pain I have anyway. I even tried taking higher than the recommended dose, but...nothing.
I actually have an extremely high pain tolerance, so usually I just deal with it, but sometimes its just too much even for me. Puts me in a bad mood a lot.:grumpy:

Good question.

If I ever get to have the necessary tests done, I'll tell ya.

Right now its just guesses and speculation. The DR i work for wouldnt know much about this as it isnt within her field of knowledge, but she's tried to help.
I need specialists,too.:grumpy:

I'm sorry you're in pain. Your job should provide health insurance so that you CAN get the necessary tests done. :(

Stealing is not cool. :|

What vile trechery is this? Stealing from the office... why thats... thats... fiendish and unheard of! Wretch-ed spawn of evil, how can thee live with thineself! Horror of horrors, woe of woes! ... so yeah... ok sorry bout that... just trying to add that dramatic and yet completely demended zing to this thread... Im finding myself increasingly addicted to thespian insults... well shakespearean... but yeah...

there are many, many more... but Im too tired to list them...

Hmmm I just realised my old status of "serves macphisto" is back... does that include miss mac as well? If it does I may have stepped in it a good one... ohhhh fiddlesticks...

You're stealing painkillers? Do you mean over the counter stuff like Ibuprofen and aspirin or the heavier narcotics like percocets and vicodan etc??

If it's the latter, be careful. You can get into some serious trouble if you're caught stealing them, or carrying them w/o a prescription.

And also with anitbiotics ... even though you may feel crappy and like you need them, you may have something that's viral, and taking antibiotics when they arent needed is only going to wear down your body's resistance to germs when you need them.

You probably know that already, but just thought I should stay something.

I hate sounding like I'm lecturing, but please be careful about taking higher than the recommended dose of any meds, whether over the counter or prescription only. And POM meds are restricted to prescription-only for a reason...they might interact with other meds, they might cause adverse reactions in some people, they can do more harm than good if used inappropriately.

You probably already know this if you work in a doctor's office, but I just wanted to mention it anyway. Take care.

You know the repurcussions for this doctor if he is found missing prescription drugs dont you.
That doesn't bother you at all?
You work, yet cannot afford food and aspirin. Curious situation you are in.

I find some things odd, but I am not one to judge. I do think stealing is wrong though.

If you ever need help, PM me or email me. I can try my best.

I don't want this to sound harsh, but that situation is a reality for many, many people. Some people have to go without what should be considered essentials - ie food and medication, it shouldn't happen, but it does.

I don't know Miss Macphisto, but if she says she's unable to see a doctor when she needs to, she deserves better than somoene making a sceptical and unsympathetic comment about her situation. (and Miss MacPhisto, I apologise for sounding as though I'm talking about you as though you're not reading)

hmmm,

miss macphisto i don't know you but i recall reading some of your posts in the past. the last person you need telling you stuff is myself cause i'm sure given your experiences you are quite wise and tough.

please take care of yourself and do what is best for you.
perhaps your employer can refer you to a good contact that they may know, maybe get some fees waived...?

take care, people here are only trying to help i'm sure.

Fizzy, it is clear why you wrote that. I probably do seem rather unsympathetic. I don't know if that is entirely accurate though. My previous reply was in 2 parts though. I have one concern for the doctor. I think despite any bravado, Miss Mac has a concience and would feel quite bad knowing her stealing prescription medications could lead to the doctor being stripped of his/her licence to practice medicine. I will say I do not feel sorry for her in this regard. She is risking this doctor's livelyhood for some pain killers. It doesnt seem right.
As for the pain she is in, yes Miss Mac, I think that is unfortunate. It is also dreadful that you cannot afford health care, especially as from all your previous posts, it seems is out of your control. I understand you live in America where the health system can sometimes mean some people like yourself are unable to recieve any medical assistance at all. I do feel for people who have to suffer for those reasons.
I felt I needed to clarify my position here, but please dont feel you should. I think its so unfair you have to go without food. I assume you have access to assistance whether it is government or private but surely you have agencies that can help you. The Salvation Army are worldwide, they are one organisation I know of that can help people with food hampers, or vouchers for supermarkets etc. On one hand this IS none of my business, but on the other, I hate to know people cannot even afford food. It is such a basic human requirement. Obviously there is more to it than this, and like I said, please dont feel you need to clarify. My last statement in the other post was merely me wondering out loud.
I hope that clears this up. But I dont like to think that my entire stance on this can be based on a reply totalling 3 sentences.

Heh - actually, I havent been reading, lol. Been away from here for a couple days. Sorry about that. I'm not ignoring anybody. :)

Anyway, I think I may have to go pretty soon, and I may not be here tomorrow, so I'll respond to everyones replies Monday if i'm able to.
Theres so much going on in my life right now that its bewildering even for me. Its hard to explain everything,i'm not that articulate i know.
Something a little more serious than stealing meds has cropped up in the past couple days.

Like I needed another concern. Shit.

On a happy note, all is not bad in my life. Tomorrow should be a good day, Ive only experienced minor pain today, no need for medication, i can handle this. If i'm the same way tomorrow, I'm going out with a couple, the guy works on "The Simpsons" and its his bday, so this should be a riot! Cya.

Right, yeah, I know about the anitbiotics. The last time i got to see my regular DR (several months ago), she started to write out a prescription for some and was surprised when i told her not to bother because they wouldnt help me any. She told me people will think she's a bad Dr if she doesnt just go ahead and prescribe antibiotics for them.
As for the painkillers, I dont worry about being caught cuz the cops around here cant even catch most murderers ( FACT), and I dont exactly look like a dealer.

Its okay, thanks. :) I'm usually pretty careful about this stuff. I ask people and I do a lot of research on the web(the original reason I got started using computers - my health). Plus I know of people that OD'd on aspirin or even committed suicide by using it. Terrible way to go.
I will keep your advice in mind next time though, as some of the folks that I ask for advice from arent exactly the most reliable sources of information, now that I think about it!:D

Yes...and thank you. The only thing the DR i work for has told me is that she thinks a lot of my health concerns are due to malnutrition, and exhaustion, etc. She doesnt know the whole story though, or even how serious this could be, as I tend to keep things to myself a LOT. Its too long to get into, and she doesnt have the time. Most days I dont even see her except as she's going from room to room .
Most of my friends do care at least somewhat, but I worry about bringing them down, or asking too much from them. And I know people who are pretty well off financially, but they wont help, at least not all of the time.
I'm not even saying it isnt partly my own fault, as it is true I dont like asking for or even accepting help. ( long story.) It just usually brings more problems.
I have tried free clinics and I know of some programs out there...I'll get into that next time.

Thanks. :)
I have to walk home today, as usual, and the pain (which wasnt too bad for a few days) is worse today.
And its still so hot out. Its about a 20 minute walk, then I take the (ugh) bus, then its another 25 minute walk - mostly uphill.
I really dont feel like it today, but dont have any choice. I havent sneaked any prescription meds since Ive posted this thread, but I did take a couple of OTC pills. I took them about 45 minutes ago, no relief yet. :slant:
But we'll see if it does any good....

To top it off, Ive been getting sick when I eat lately. Something else to get checked out.
And I have to deal with some serious issues at home now!!!! ARGH!!!!
Will this nightmare ever end?!
