That's been the Right's talking point for a few years now. We're not a democracy, we're a republic....

That's democratically elected / represented by voting........

it's tiring to hear over and over

One moron forgot to put the word democratic before the word republic. Other than being terrifying. Does anyone ask what their alternative is that they would have instead of a democratic republic? Just calling it a REPUBLIC!!!! doesn't mean anything. Sooooo no more voting? Or just fake voting like in China and Russia? Not sure what they're driving at here.

This is a party that realizes it will never win the popular vote again and that it’s representatives in the House and Senate will always represent fewer people than the opposition. But this is ok, you see, because some people’s votes (rural votes, the people who “make things” and who are better people) should have their votes counted more. Direct democracy has no place in a Republic where the point is “freedom” and sometimes there are internal enemies of America who don’t seem to want to put it First and they may have to be restricted from voting. Wyoming voters deserve to have 47x the power of California voters.

Those folks have something us liberal city coastal elites don’t…Tegridy

Can't help but shake my head seeing people line up to vote in the primaries for people that tell them directly that they will discard whatever votes they want to.

This strategy does seem to work. I have friends and even family back in Iowa that are so tired of it they just prefer he goes away. They'd love for justice to be served, but trying to follow the bullshit is exhausting for most who don't really like to follow politics or events.

Part of me thinks, tough??? I get it's mentally exhausting to keep up with lies or the slow process of the law, but what's coming down the road if GQP regain power will make current times seem like a breeze.

On top of that, a climate report came out stating that within three decades over 100million people will be exposed to extreme heat, pushing 125+ degrees. From North Texas through the middle of the country / heartland.

The majority of those people should be ok with it because climate change is a hoax.

Exception: Illinois

Liz Cheney was wrong about everything, except for one thing (and I guess two things, I hope she and her sister made amends).

History will be kind to her.

If we still have history in 3 years.

I have zero sympathy for Liz Cheney but I do appreciate the position she took. And it's hilarious that Republican voters self owned themselves. She represents the more conservative side of the party and they just ousted her for a cult member. Can't wait to see that party implode when Trump is in prison.

Sounds likely for the Senate, maybe even pick up a seat or two ?

I’ve read the House still looks to be trouble due to gerrymandering.

How amazing would it be for the country for Dems to gain more control, meaning less insurrectionists, and better laws being passed!!??

Also, is Arizona trying to outcompete with Florida and Texas as the most mental State in the country ??

There's a limit to how much crazy people will take, and we're well past that limit.

The actually crazy people will continue believing that Trump is leading a secret revolution against satanic pedophiles and is the one true king.

Moderate democrats and independents have had enough of the horse shit. And so have the few remaining moderate Republicans. It's even creeping into regular old Republicans.

Ron De-septic offers them all an out. A human POS that isn’t just a conman willing to destroy a country over his love for himself.

Yeah, DeSatan is far more dangerous than Trump legislatively, not as dangerous in other ways, I would suspect. But if he had the house and senate, we would be fucked. Especially anything to do with public education.

Well yea, much like Ted Cruz, who I was saying I was far more afraid of than Trump in 2016.

In hindsight, I think horrifyingly dangerous legislators are not nearly as scary as existentially stupid narcissists.

Agreed, 100%. I know some people think it's overblown, but I disagree. I think history will show that Biden winning in 2020 was one of the most important moments in American history, even if Biden doesn't even come close to cracking a Top 20 Presidents list.

I agree that DeSantis would be skillful enough to do terrible things and hurt people, but do you see him shredding the constitution like the America Firsters have promised to do if Trump is re-elected in 2024?

Agreed. We've had the January 6th hearings, and now there's all this stuff about the search of Mar-a-Lago...if all of that leads to Trump actually facing serious charges at long last, and people can see that something is finally, actually being done about him, for real, then it could restore some hope in people and encourage them to come out in droves to help ensure that he continues to face those consequences.

And outside of all the Trump drama, so long as the Democrats keep passing successful legislation, as they've been doing recently, that'll go a long way towards benefitting them, too. Here the GOP is pulling their stupid stunts and refusing to support a lot of this legislation, and here's the Democrats, actually doing their jobs and passing it. The choice is, or should be, at least, pretty simple, really.

And, of course, the overturning of Roe will also assuredly be a motivator for a lot of voters. If the results of the recent election in Kansas are anything to go by, that could, hopefully, be a sign of what's to come in terms of which way people will go in November, too.

I don't even want to think about the idea of a President DeSantis. Talk about a nightmare scenario.

I don't think DeSantis is overly skilful at all.

But yes, he's not a mob linked money launderer, white washed by Mark Burnett, racist via his Klan member dad, turned into a radical fascist by Fox news just like all old white dudes and unleashed on the American people because a lot of people said "how bad could he be" and "they're all the same".

I was once fearful of DeSantis becoming "smart Trump." A few more years of watching him work has softened that. I don't think he's overly smart or skilful. Some of the things he's done have been outright stupid - like his war with Disney. I could be wrong, and he'd obviously be a legislative threat, but not a threat to the whole shebangy bang like Trump is.

A smart Trump is the biggest threat to American democracy. Someone who has a personality that plays well in TV, and who is willing to shred the constitution in the same way Trump did, but not be as woefully inept and dumb about it.

There's a candidate in the Richmond State House, but I'm not sure he's as ruthless as Trump. Cotton and Hawley have damaged themselves. We'll see.

Noem worries me more at this point.

Here's a hypothetical that may be crazy but I'm throwing it out there regardless...

If Trump or a Trumpy type candidate wins the republican nomination in 24, it wouldn't shock me in the least to see, oh, Liz Cheney run third party if only to steal votes away, all but ensuring a Biden/democrat victory.

The hypothetical is this... would a high profile dem see an opportunity to do the same and throw the entire thing into chaos? Perhaps an independent senator who only caucuses with the Democrats?

lol bernie sanders has basically achieved socialism at this point from living rent free in your head for so long.
