This record is full of great lines and lyrics. All songs have at least one great line (maybe Fez doesn't, but that's for me). Anyway what are your top 10 favorite lines on NLOTH?

It took me a while but here are mine:

01. I did not noticed the passers by and they did not noticed me
02. Every night I have the same dream I'm hatching some plot, scheming some scheme
03. I had driven to the scene of the accident and I sat there waiting for me
04. They're not there at the beginning but when this story ends, gonna last with you longer than your friends
05. It's like a small child crossing an eight lane highway on a voyage of discovery
06. Squeezing complicate lives into a simple headline
07. We are people borne of sound, the songs are in our eyes, gonna wear them like a crown
08. I got submarine, you got gasoline
09. And love is evolution's very best days
10. Every beauty needs to go out with an idiot

My favorite line on the album is from SUC: "The DNA lotto may have left you smart, but can you stand up to beauty, dictator of the heart."

The rest are really in no particular order:

"Pity the nation that won't listen to your boys and girls"

"I didn't have a choice but to lift you up."

"There's a part of you that wants me to riot."

"Let me in the sound, God I'm going down, I don't wanna drown."

"African sun at last."

"Every day I die again and again I'm reborn."

"Chinese stocks are going up and I'm coming down with some new Asian virus."

"The scent of it lingers, and then it just goes."

Just one favourite:

"The stone was semi-precious. We were barely conscious.."

There are so many!!

But I think this is my fave:
"They're not there at the beginning but when this story ends, gonna last with you longer than your friends"

Favorite line for me -- among others: "I know a girl, hole in her heart, she says infinity's a great place to start." I had heart surgery to fix the hole in mine -- so there ya go.

Also: "Neither down nor out, there's nothing you have that I need..." My five year old loves the cockatoo line, and I've gotta admit it's actually growing on me.

'boys and girls'
'I tied myself with wire'
'cease to speak'
'baby baby baby'
'justified till we die you and I will magnify'
'counting down till the pain would stop'
'16th of june, 9:05, doorbell rings man at the door says if I wanna stay alive a bit longer...'
'god I'm going down, I don't want to drown'
'you know we'll go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight'
'come on ye people!'

I could really only come up with five individual lines that I enjoyed:

5. "It's not a hill, it's a mountain."

4. "And the water, it was icy; as it washed over me."

3. "It's not if I believe in love, if love believes on me; oh, believe in me."

2. "The road refuses strangers; the land: the seeds we sew."

1. "This shitty world sometimes produces a rose; the scent of it lingers, but then it just goes."

in no order:

"and the water, it was icy / as it washed, over me"
"laughter is eternity if joy is real"
"is it true that perfect love drives out all fear?"
"choose your enemies carefully 'cos they will define you"
"the roar that lies on the other side of silence"
"head first, then foot / then heart sets sail"
"i did not notice the passers-by / and they did not notice me"
"two souls to smart to be in the realm of certainty"
"she said 'time is irrelevant, it's not linear' / then she put her tongue in my ear"
"unholy clouds reflecting in a minaret"

10. We set ourselves on fire / Oh God, do not deny her
9. The worst of us are a long, drawn out confession / The best of us are geniuses of compression
8. Doc says you’re fine or dying.... Please!
7. Head first, then foot, then heart sets sail
6. At the moment of surrender of vision over visibility
5. Walk out, into the sunburst street / Sing your heart out, sing my heart out
4. Now I got a head like a lit cigarette / Unholy clouds reflect in a minaret
3. To sleep the night shooting out the stars
2. Justified, till we die, you and I will magnify...The Magnificent

1. The ending of Unknown Caller where horns play "My Savior's Love" hymn and then the Edge fires up the guitar! Obviously not a "Line", but a typical place where Bono might try to sing over the music. In this case, silence is GOLDEN!!

There are so many, it's hard for me to chose. I love all of MOS and White as snow, also NLOTH and Cedars. Breathe is great, too. I find many of the lyrics on the album amazing and very inspiring.

I'll just list five.

This shitty world sometimes produces a rose / the scent of it lingers and then it just goes

Head first, then foot, then heart set sail

She said infinity's a great place to start

I did not notice the passers by / and they did not notice me

If only a heart could be / as white as snow

In no particular order...and I have many more favs.

1. Every day I, die again, and again I'm reborn

2. I didn't have a choice but to lift You up and sing whatever song You wanted me to.

3. Who can forgive forgiveness where forgiveness is not? Only the Lamb as white as snow.

4. Stop helping God across the road like a little old lady.

5. Time is irrelevant, it's not linear.

6. I was speeding on the subway through the stations of the Cross, every eye looking the other way counting down til the pain would stop.

7. I had driven to the scene of the accident, and I sat there waiting for me.

8. How can you stand next to the truth and not see it? A change of heart comes slow.

9. The forest fire that is fear, so deny it.

10. You're so high above me, higher than everyone. Where are You in the cedars of Lebanon?

Bonus 10. Women of the future hold the big revelations.

1. Choose your enemies carefully ‘cos they will define you
2. But I’m running down the road like loose electricity
While the band in my head plays a striptease
3. I was lost between the midnight and the dawning
In a place of no consequence or company
4. I did not notice the passers-by
And they did not notice me
5. Head first then foot
Then heart sets sail

Honourable mention
I know a girl with a hole in her heart
She said infinity is a great place to start

Difficult to put these in order of which is my top favorite so these are in no particular order:

"I'm running down the road like loose electricity / while the band in my head plays a striptease"

"The stone was semi-precious / We were barely conscious" Actually, pretty much every single lyric in MOS.

"Lights flash past like memories"

"Every beauty needs to go out with an idiot / How can you stand next to the truth and not see it?" (I like this one for...personal reasons, it reminds me of a certain someone I know!)

The entire "choose your enemies" stanza from Cedars.

"There's a part of me in the chaos that's quiet / And there's a part of you that wants me to riot"

My favorite songs overall lyrically are MOS, Crazy Tonight and Cedars in that order.

I love the Moment of Surrender lyrics, particularly:

At the moment of surrender
I'm falling to my knees
I did not notice the passers by
And they did not notice me

I also love that line from I'll Go Crazy if I Don't Go Crazy Tonight:

The right to go ridiculous is something I hold dear
