In God's Country is about America. Specifically, it could be about Irish immigration to America, but i'm not positive. Though lines like, "She is liberty, she come to rescue me.." is a definite praise to the Statue of Liberty, a highly metaphoric landmark in the USA.

In God's Country
I was wondering if anyone had any insight on the meaning of In God's Country. It's one of my favorites from The Joshua Tree (although I do love all those songs), and I've always wondered what it was about exactly.

In God's Country is the greatest desert driving song EVER! You really must keep an eye on the rear-view to make sure California's/Arizona's/Nevada's best aren't going to haul you off to the pokey for excessive speed!
