I still can't get my head around Beautiful Day opening the set...it's 2010!
Hold Me Thrill Me was released five years earlier than BD...
Ebert nine years earlier...

I see it working better in the encore than as an opener, but that's just me.
So U2 could come out and play 3 instrumentals but the first real opening song would be the fourth because it had vocals? Interesting
Yep, i dont get how people are saying U2 are opening with BD, when its actually them PLAYING return of the stingray, to me that is opening.
Turin. Production rehearsals.
This gave us our third option, the other two being Beautiful Day coming out of Elbow's 'One Day Like This' and the complete wildcard of opening with Moment of Surrender, coming out of 'Soon', the track formerly known as 'Kingdom of Your Love' that preceded Breathe in last year's show.
Around midnight I checked YouTube, just out of interest, and there it was - already there was a recording of Glastonbury on line. The music was pretty muddy but the vocal, melody and lyric were absolutely crystal clear. What an awesomely insane world we live in. Big Brother could only dream of this level of surveillance
whoah, issues...Well that is a hypothetical I don't need to worry about because as you well know, that is not the situation. Therefore, there is no need to adopt that superior tone with me, thank you.
But, factually that's incorrect, no matter how you "feel". That's all I'm saying. I'm not defending the opening, I personally hate it, but I just don't follow your logic here.As far as I am concerned, they come out playing an incomplete instrumental song, the structure of which still sounds embryonic. They then go pretty quickly into Beautiful Day. In my view, that means they open with Beautiful Day and I would imagine that those in the stadium would say the same. Had they come on playing Glastonbury, I would of course, think differently.
HMTMKMKM I can sort of see with the whole 'what time is it?'.....'showtime'
MOS
Hmm opening with HMTMKMKM would be very very nice, rocking right from the start.
I wouldn't mind them opening with Moment of Surrender. It's different. It's risky.
I enjoy the new Stingray opening but the silence to BD just kills the mood.
There is no silence between the Stingray intro and BD. The intro stops, lots of cheering from the crowd and then BD starts and even more cheering from the crowd. At least, that's how it was in Hannover. It worked very well.
But reading Willie's diaries.....these guys think way too much and second guess with the wrong decisions. Its like they have too much to play with, via claw. I don't understand how U2/Willie nailed ZooTV, Popmart, Elevation, and Vertigo setlist w/ each of tour having a epic/unique opening then they just drop the ball for the 360 Tour.
