I'm the same way. The only time I shoot manual is for stuff like long night exposures (eclipses, moon, fireworks) where I'm using a tripod and a remote or timer. I'd say 90% of my photos are taken on the Sports mode and probably 99% of those photos are of dogs.

I did portraits today... kind of.

I don't usually do portraits, but I think those turned out nicely.

It's true I really don't like shooting manual. There's no need to for me, not when there are cameras out there with smart scenic modes designed for people just like me. I'm a programmer not a photographer. ;)

This is true. And I've seen people like Lies take fabulous photos without shooting manual all the time.

awwwwwww:cute: hahahaa! and thanks for the mail lu, I will reply soon!

I'm just not artsy-fartsy at all. For me, a "good" photograph gives me an accurate representation of the subject and the overall mood/atmosphere. Does it look how I remembered it? Does it make me feel how I felt when it happened? If so then for me it's a good photo. Some of my favorite photos are not very good as far as technique. For example this is just a plain ol' candid snapshot, probably shot on full auto with auto focus, parts of it are even out of focus, but I laugh *every* time I see it and both DH and I agree it's one of our favorites because to us it looks as hilarious as that moment was.

Similarly, my favorite portraits of my dogs are not always the ones that are the sharpest, have the most accurate white balance, follow the rule of thirds, etc but are the ones that to me are the most accurate representation of my dog's spirit. I've had people snap some damn good photos of my dogs for me but if they don't capture my dog's true nature and expression, I'm likely to never look at the photo again.

That is a great shot  That's what I want from my pictures. I want to be able to look back at all the fun times that were had and laugh about them. I love doing photography for the art portion of it, but at the same time I'd like to be able to look back at pictures I took and not just see pretty shots, but see the fun that was had. That's why I hope Pat gets himself an entry level dslr soon, so I can steal it and use that to take the fast shots that don't require me spending a lot of time tweaking the settings.

I love my point and shoot but if you put a moving object in front of it without that unflattering flash on everything turns into a giant blur :( external flashes are better

Sometimes my point and shoot photos are so bad it just adds to them being funny (generally pictures of what the dogs have most recently destroyed).

Anna, truly beautiful

Can't wait to get your message :)

And that squirrel attacked me! Yes, it did! It jumped at me and ran up my leg because it expected me to have some peanuts. Those squirrls are so spoilt! :grumpy:

This is why I don't shoot automatic on my 7D. I decided to give it a try today and outdoors the camera set ISO to 1000 for some dumb reason and now a bunch of images are noisy (not a ridiculous level of noise, but enough that they don't quite look up to par with ASP-C sensor quality). Auto is better on my point and shoot.

Hey everyone here are the photos I have chosen for my final. I will miss portrait class it was fun and stressful at the same time.

Really loving the combo of concerts and photography.

Really like the concert photos, it's always hard to shoot concert photography due to low lighting condtions.

Love the animals photos especially of the two horses cuddling.

Interesting series MadameClayton, looking forward to the rest.

So many great pictures here

I'm on holiday right now and it's been raining a lot today. When the rain stopped I used the break to go out and took some pictures. They are not that great but some turned out to be quite interesting. Needless to say, I was quite wet afterwards from crawling through the bushes

Wow, I love all of your pictures so much. I envy your talent!

I just finished up taking an Advanced Photography class at my school and I had to submit a portfolio. Here are a few random shots:

All digital, that last one is film.

Also random question for you guys: I'm looking into possibly purchasing my first DSLR camera. I don't want anything too expensive...I found the Canon Rebel T3i...any suggestions/thoughts/ideas on what I should be looking for? Thanks!
