I really like and respect the Astros (outside of subhuman Aroldis Chapman equivalent Roberto Osuna), but their fans have been humorless cranks all playoffs. I know Houston is renowned for being boring as hell but shit man, baseball is supposed to be fun.

Can't wait for the first pearl clutching Astros fan tweet about Juan Soto grabbing his nuts in the batter's box.

Astros in 6 btw. If this makes it out of DC, it's over. We can't hold up that long with such a short pen unless every starter notches 7 quality innings a night. There are maybe two guys who can pitch back to back nights without falling apart.

please explain yourself.
I don't think Major League Baseball's indifference to domestic violence is more perfectly encapsulated than it is by the Astros, and it's really come to a head this week in particular. I can't abide by it. They deserve to get curbstomped.

Cole has been completely unbeatable for months, but Strasburg has been unbeatable all playoffs, so I like our chances of stealing one of the first two in Houston. Not feeling good about today's matchup though.

We beat Cole! He hadn't lost since May! Oh my God!

With Strasburg on the mound tomorrow, we have a chance to take control. Already huge to have flipped homefield advantage early, especially after a long layoff, but putting them against the wall the way we did the Cardinals would be something else altogether.

Over Joe Girardi?

This seems like fan service.

Of course, the Cubs could never win another World Series and I'd be able to live off the fumes of 2016.

Personally? Yes. I don't like him and definitely didn't want to have to cheer for him.

Honestly, if you take a bit if time to read into it, Ross makes sense. And Theo loves his baseball IQ. So now he's got someone running the team that he knows and is comfortable with. I don't mind trying it out a season or two. If it blows up, oh well. As you say, screw it, I got a world series. I can be happy with that. And if he doesn't screw up and is great, he'll probably go down as my all-time favorite baseball player (watch out Piazza).

Glad for Girardi that he got a job again as Manager. Sure, the Yankees "only" won 1 World Series in his 10 years as Manager. But, that was just because the front office never really provided him with enough starting pitching. A problem that Aaron Boone is now facing.

If the Nats win tonight, the party is over. Or 5 games like Hewson predicted. I guess I really did jinx Astros. After their destruction of the Yankees, figured they continue the carnage. Will there be rioting in Montreal if the Nats win? Will they be happy or angry or indifferent?

some of those yankees teams of the early part of this decade were truly awful.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYY/2014.shtml

that team somehow won 84 games with the catcher leading the team with 23 HRs and not one starter with an OPS+ above 111.

the year before that cano (147) and gardner (110) were the only starters on that team with an OPS+ above 89, aka seven of their nine primary hitters were worse than 10% below league average at hitting. and that team won 85 games. neither team had really good pitching to make up for lack of offense, either.

baseball is weird

Really embarrassing homecoming effort tonight. Fielding was trash and we had nothing with two outs.

Only positive is that we taxed their bullpen hard with a possible bullpen game coming up tomorrow. Either that or Cole on short rest with a tired bullpen behind him.

If they go bullpen, it's a must win game with Corbin on the mound.

Baseball-Fan betting millions Astros can rally to win World Series
Reuters

A Houston fan is sticking by the Astros, wagering a reported $8.5 million that the American League team, trailing 2-0 to the Washington Nationals, will stage a comeback in the World Series.

Jim McIngvale, who calls himself “Mattress Mack,” originally bet $3.5 million with a Mississippi casino that the Astros would claim the best-of-seven series, the Houston Chronicle reported.

He added another million after the Nationals surprised the Astros in the series opener in Houston on Tuesday.

The Houston furniture store owner also has bets in Nevada and New Jersey which the Chronicle said could bring in more than $15 million if the Astros win the World Series.

But the Astros, who play the Nationals in Game Three in Washington on Friday, have their work cut out, still needing four victories to become world champions.

McIngvale placed the bets as a hedge against the possibility that he will have to refund $15 million or more in mattress purchases made by customers as part of his furniture store’s “Win it All” promotion, the Chronicle reported.

Customers who make qualified purchases of $3,000 or more will receive refunds if the Astros win the World Series.

this guy's business model is solid as a rock.

I guess going by Yankee standards, a team is "truly awful" when they only win 84 or 85 games. Those were kind of the "rebuilding years". Plus, a few of their expensive guys were injured or suspended. Gee, who could that be? It sucked to see Cano leave the Yankees, but he had to do what best for himself and his family.

Sanchez was due for a mediocre start, Corbin is due for a great one [emoji1696]

Seriously though I'm scared

yea i wasn't talking shit, i'm legit impressed that teams that by the stats should have been lower in the standings (they both won at least a half dozen games more than the stats say they should have) did that well. point being that i'm not unhappy that the dude who managed those teams is now managing my team.

You should be. The Astros are a great team. And, holy shit, AR on FOX just said the team that wins Game 4 wins the WS. I think I actually agree with him. Scary shit.

Yes, Joe Girardi is an awesome Manager, who I suppose wore out his welcome in the Bronx because he was too openly critical of players like Gary Sanchez. Lo and behold, that next season Gary's defense was worse than ever. Even Joe's last season in 2017, that team definitely overachieved. No one expected them to make it to Game 7 of the ALCS.

One of my best friends who lives in Houston got free furniture 2 years ago from "Mattress Mack" when the Tralfazes won the WS.

But he doesn't like the guy. He also bid $1,000 at a fundraiser auction last year for $3,000 worth of furniture at this guy's stores and won...then the guy wouldn't honor it saying "you already got too much free furniture from me".

Therefore, go Nats.

Wow, we're going to get swept the rest of the way playing like this.

My fault for having any hope tbh

Having no dog in this fight, I gotta say this umpiring is disgusting. And it's definitely biased towards the Stros. This isn't even fun watching anymore.

Win game 6 and anything can happen.

If we can't turn it around, at least we'll lose with our best on the mound. Hats off to them if they can beat us with Strasburg.
