From my uncle, who lives in Kingaroy:
Oh yeah - he and his group are nearby - and they are alive and well.
They have been around for a couple of years now - and are stuck out in the scrub fortunately so we don't have to put up with them around town much.
Fuitloops really.
Unfortunately now they are trying to infiltrate the schools in RE or chaplaincy - so far those in control have seen through it but white ants are like that - takes a while but eventually the foundations cop it then the whole structure becomes weak and eventually falls over.
A right proper con artist as well - you needed to watch out for this type as they will get you in and rip you off blind.
History is full of various con artists who somehow get a following - this leads to a credibility of sorts, and then they really go nuts.
David Koresh in Waco, Texas, and Jim Jones of the Guyana "peoples temple" and plenty of others.
Google that one and see what you find! Not a pleasant thought.
All great ideas to start with, then it all turns to custard.
You had not heard about him? I thought the whole country knew. (See link below - this was first I heard of him - I was away with work and the other guys came in with the paper and wanted to know why I had not told them I had 'Jesus' on my side!!)
Jesus and Mary cult followers buy up land around Kingaroy | The Courier-Mail
Its interesting that this blokes property is next to a former aquaculture client of mine - so I know the area quite well.
Out of the way, in the scrub and with all sorts of loopy people residing in the area.
My mate "Lester" has 2 big german shepherds, and they are reknowned for their killing and eating skills with the local wallaby population.
Needless to say - the various cult members do not wander around the ponds very much!!
Its quite a scream listening to Lester talk about it. He is ex army and a huge man - likes his privacy! You can't help but call him 'sir' in general conversation. Unfortunately his solution for the neighborhood problem is illegal!!
Had you heard of "Jonestown" before? It happened before you were born, and when we heard about it it was the weirdest thing - surreal. Could not believe that many people could be persuaded.
